The Atlantic

Have you ever noticed large bodies of water are often mentioned with the word "the" in front of them? Why is that? The Atlantic Ocean or The Pacific Ocean. Using the word "the" is somehow a distinction of uniqueness or importance, I guess. We used to live near The Pacific, the world's largest ocean and now we live near The Atlantic, the world's second largest ocean. But I learned today that the Pacific Ocean is shrinking and the Atlantic Ocean is getting larger. As you might have guessed our weekly foray was to The Atlantic.

Gary dipped his feet in the Atlantic so our journey is somehow complete. We've come from sea to shining sea here in America. We left the West Coast about four months ago and we finally made it to the East Coast. I picked up a shell near the water and saw it had a sea creature inside and so I put it back.

We spent most of the day at the Cape Canaveral National Seashore even though most portions were closed due to a shuttle launch tomorrow. I looked at the website before we left, but didn't realize I was supposed to figure out the shore would be closed three days before a launch, even though the date of the launch wasn't posted on that site.

Oh well we had a great day and definitely want to go back real soon. We sold the trailer we pulled from California yesterday. Then today when we went to the Atlantic we were wishing we had a small RV to stay longer at the seashore. We'll have to think about that. We used to camp in tents, but our old bones don't handle that type of camping any longer. And we really don't like staying in motels. Perhaps a bed and breakfast inn might be fun. We'll have to be better organized for the next trip.

We saw lots of birds in the salt marshes, egrets, herons, bald eagles, osprey, red winged black birds, plovers, and so many more. This cattail, or Typha, grew a little different than all the others; sometimes recognizing uniqueness and embracing it is the best thing to do, don't you think?

I know I promised some tattoo inspiration pieces this time. I hope you don't mind this small detour to the seashore, which we didn't plan but did on a whim. Sometimes those are the best trips. We definitely want to go back already. It took us about two hours to drive to the Atlantic, which was about how long it used to take us to drive to the Pacific when we lived on the West Coast.

Up next I'll bring you tattoos in all their glory. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

  1. You are making me a bit homesick for Florida. If you haven't seen a shuttle launch up close it is worth the trip to the Cape. It is AWESOME and that should be in capital letters.
Regardless, you can see it from almost anyplace in Fla but you have to be there to feel it.

  2. You aren't staying for the launch?!
I know how you feel about selling the RV, we are already missing our van and tent camping is not my favorite thing to do anymore. I think we will have to get a pop up or something one of these days!

  6. Hi Patti, thanks, sorry about making you home sick, that was one beautiful place to visit; we already want go back; there are so many wonderful places to explore around here and we haven't even made it out of the state.

Hi Tracey, thanks, we were also thinking of a pop up or a small trailer, one with a bathroom, we shall see if we can find an inexpensive one.

Hi Meredith, thanks, we are trying to make up for all the times we didn't go anywhere from our last home. It's too easy to fall into our old routine of all work and no play.

Hi Lori, thanks, the photos don't do the beauty of that area justice it was wonderful.

  11. Hi Cindy, thanks, glad you are enjoying our day trips. We're really hoping the oil spill doesn't come to any coastlines and they can get it cleaned up. The oil companies make so much profit and yet they don't put any profit into figuring out how to clean up spills, unconscionable.

Hi Connie, thanks, supposedly we can see the launch from our home, but we weren't planning on staying and then we got home and forgot about it since we have so much remodeling to do.

Hi Jeannette and Connie, anything but Aunt Linda, thanks, been meaning to call but my cell phone is out of minutes and no long distance on this phone; I'll drop you a line; you can send me a personal email at the email address on the upper left of blog. Gary says hi, he'll be coming back to get the bus soon.
