Glaze Crazy

My glazing started out calm and sereen, then it went out of control. I was actually having fun glazing, is that crazy or what. Part of the fun was seeing all the work again, which I made over the past several months, and dreaming of actually having some finished pieces. I brushed on the glaze for most of the pieces, except a few where I poured glaze in the inside.

I've posted photos of my glazing today in the reverse order that I glazed them. So the goblet above was the last pieces I glazed today, I think I might have gone overboard on that one. I only have one, so, no matter, it's not like it's a matched set. I just followed the lines with the pyramids. Since they are enclosed pieces I have small holes in them to keep them from blowing up. I plugged the holes with toothpicks while I glazed them.

I've always admired how Ron Philbeck leaves a little of his clay showing on his pieces, so I decided to do that with a few of my pieces. The red clay is so beautiful just the way it is, I hated to cover it all up. The two pieces with the indents will have a surprise added so you'll have to come back to see them when they're out of the glaze firing.

Gary was walking by and I asked him how I should glaze this basket he said two colors on a diagonal. I didn't get the diagonal quite right, but I think the two tone will be effective.

Remember the spirit jars I made so long ago. I glazed them with a couple of different colors. I was going to raku them, but I was afraid they might break or some of the pieces might fall off and I didn't want to risk them. When I picked up the one on the left it rang like a chime; I forgot I put some pieces of clay inside before I sealed it up. I really like that effect. I want to make more of these spirit jars and hopefully some really large ones.

As I promised, up next are more tatto inspired pieces, but I'm using a different technique for them, so stay tuned for those. Comments and suggestions are welcome.
