Happy Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July to everyone. Here's some white for the red, white, and blue of the holiday, a white bird of paradise. I may have to plant one in my yard. I'm almost out of mega bites for the month; they'll reset after the 3rd, so I'll be scarce till then.

We're having a lot of rain here this week due to the influence of Alex. In clay news, I made this chicken bowl the other day. The lid to my pin cushion box fell off when I was moving it to another shelf. The bottom is dry and the lid is form fitting, not sure I can make another lid to fit now. Guess I'll have to make more. I must remember to tape all lids from now on. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

  2. I actually "saw" a bird in your bird of paradise flower photo and Laura had to explain it to me!! What a beautiful flower. Your delightful chicken bowl brings back fond memories of when we had two white refugee roosters living here. Being both male, they couldn't actually lay eggs, but they thought they could and made nests and earnestly guarded and incubated phantom eggs! We found them delightful companions in the garden, and very eccentric!

Sad about your pin cushion box lid. I seem to end up breaking things when I am trying to fit just one more thing into a bisque firing! Probably the only thing you can do is make another entire box with lid, very hard to match things unless you are doing a series from templates or something.

Happy 4th July to you and to Gary xx

  6. Hi Mary, thank so much, happy holiday to you too.

Hi Peter, thanks, two male chickens trying to incubate, too funny, but cute. I hope to make a platter with a bird of paradise on it, these are such wonderfully unusual flowers. I might think of a stopper top for the box if I can figure it out, but it might be quicker just to start over.

Hi Cindy, thanks I used some chicken wire on a vase about two years ago and it makes a great impression. I think it was on my Ben Vase if you search my archives. I too want to use the bird of paradise in something clay, such a wonderful form.

Hi Trish, thanks, it is shaping up to be a good one, same to you.

Hi Patricia, thanks, so many tropical plants and locations around here. So much to enjoy. happy holiday to you.
