The Forgotten Coast

Can't wait to get to the beach.

Sea oats, pines, and white sand along the way.

Almost there.

Lounging on the beach.

Lots of seaweed.

All to myself, not a drop of oil.

The Forgotten Coast of Florida, a great place to visit.

  1. Wow, I love the pictures for it makes me a tad homesick. Wonderful for you that the beaches are deserted but for those who work and live there, if that keeps up, it will doom Florida. They live and die by the tourist.
Those your kayaks?? Cool. My yellow one would fit right in though I never took mine in the ocean.

  2. Living near the ocean is great, isn't it? A mostly deserted beach is one of the most peaceful things in the world, no?

  6. Hi Everyone, keep this in mind if you're looking for a place to take a vacation, it is so beautiful in that area and is much less crowded than Pensacola and Destin area.

Hi Patti, thanks, we were thinking the same thing, not many tourists at all and lots of closed business, some due to the economy and others due to the news about all the oil on the beaches. So I thought I'd post photos and let folks know they can go there and take a vacation. We were only there a short while but want to go back for sure. Those aren't our kayaks they were just tied up there, but I thought it an enticing photo.

Hi Miri, thanks, yes these beaches reminded us of some of the ones we saw in the Baja, not many people at all which we love.

Hi Meredith, thanks, yes florida has so many great places, we are amazed over and over again.

Hi Jim, thanks, I was thinking of your post when we were up there. We didn't make it to St. George, but want to go back up there, we loved the town of Apalachicola so many great old homes and so many quaint fishing villages in that area.

Hi Tracey, thanks, we were looking at a motorhome up there and decided to take the long way home and glad we discovered that area. now we want to go back for more than one day and really take it easy instead of working on our house and looking for motorhomes, no luck yet.

  8. Beautiful photos, Linda. There's something magical about a deserted beach...is it because ships sail into the horizon to faraway places? because the waves lap continuously, lulling one into dreaming, not thinking? Have never decided, enjoy returning just to experience the joy of it all.

Linda, it's so nice of you to show others the Florida beaches are safe and come on down. The flip side of what is so peaceful can be stressful to those who rely upon tourists to survive. We're all in a conundrum...it's gonna take awhile to work our way out of this mess....

  9. Hi Michele, thanks, I am happy we live in a state we can go to the beach so easily. Once we lived in Arkansas for four years and it was too far to the beach to go except once a year on a vacation.

Hi Kittie, thanks, yes the everlasting lapping of the waves is mesmerizing. yes I hope someone sees my post and comes down, hopefully it will help those relying on tourist travel for their livelyhoods.

  10. Nice shots, Linda!
The blue and red boats accentuate the whiteness of the sand! I love the desert beach. Were there more people before the oil accident? There are fewer people on beaches now in Japan after the Obon festival because of jellyfishes which have appeared after the Obon. Do you have them there?

  11. Hi Sapphire, thanks so much, almost all of the beaches here in Florida have white sand; a little distance from the beaches it is abundantly tropical and lush vegetation abounds. There's normally lots of people vacationing in Florida, I think the news reported so much about the oil spill many folks have stayed away from the beaches thinking they were polluted. the oil never reached these beaches at all. I don't know about the jelly fish here; I have not heard about an abundant amount of them at all. The gulf water here is very shallow and only drops a foot for every mile out to the sea so very shallow. This time of year the water is very warm about 86 degrees farenheit, or 30 celcius, just like a bathtub temperature.
