Peas, Pea Coats, Handles

I could eat pounds of sugar snap peas. I love them. I didn't even take the stems off; I ate every bit. I put a pat of butter in a pan, sprinkle a little tarragon, dried orange rind, and saute till warm and serve. They don't really need any spice but I tried something different this time.

Remember pea coats? The double breasted buttons on this piece are a little wonky, but it reminded me of a pea coat. Black clay is hard to photograph and see the detail. This piece is about 13 inches tall and 5 inches wide.

I always make something and then try to figure out how I will prop it up. These small handles were easy.

Then I decided to make a large handle on another tray for variety. Wonder how I'll prop this up till it dries?

Thank goodness for the invention of plastic bags and painter's tape.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

  2. I'm drawn to the nightsky platter with handle. Very nice. It's interesting, to see what shapes and such you are inspired to try. You definitely have your own style and that's very cool.

  6. Hi Kittie, thanks, maybe my creativity is stored in my fat, I could give some of that away gladly, Ha. I just let my mind wander and these crazy things come to me. Those little buttons are made with a drain for a sink. I was thinking of those buttons last night, thinking I want to make a platter with some of them placed around the rim.

Hi Teresa, thanks, last night the moon was a sliver and there was one star near it so I made the tray having been inspired by them. I was thinking the other day that I don't have a style and I am all over the place. If you can see a style, then that's good.

Hi Meredith, thanks, the pea coats were popular when I went to college in the 70s, definitely the hippie days. I was inspired by Tracey's post about eating your colors to put the peas in, but I forgot to mention it in this post.

  7. Hi Michele, thanks, I love those snap peas, I used to grow them years ago when I lived in a cooler climate and would eat them right off the vine.

  9. Hi Marguerite, thanks so much. I keep meaning to get some soft foam for a prop but never seem to get to the fabric store.
