Six Wheels & Turkey

Some of my old photographs have great subject material for my clay work either two or three dimensional. I like the peeling green paint on this old wagon. The wheels remind me of a piece I made in my RV.

Wish I had made one wheel removable on this piece with six wheels. I could have put a tealight candle inside and the light could have shown through the wheel spokes. I might have to make another one. I made the wheels roughly so they'd appear aged and glazed this piece unevenly to mimic a wear pattern on the edge of the wheels. I've admired many a ceramic candle holder others have made. You know the votive ones with holes where the light shines through. Then there's the lantern shaped ones. More possibilities for clay.

Frozen turkeys were fairly inexpensive so I purchased a turkey to roast. It took quite a few days to thaw out in the frig, but I finally cooked it. I figured I could freeze some and cooking would take less time so I'd have more time in the studio. We're all bringing appetizers for the show reception Friday evening, does anyone know a glutton free recipe for a turkey appetizer? Maybe something with cranberries would be good.

I've been in the process of reorganizing my blog over the last several months. Seems as though some blogs have disappeared from my roll so if you don't see yours please let me know and I'll add it in. Some of my own comments on my own blog have disappeared; then the other day I couldn't do any editing. Anyway I've moved the blog rolls to the bottom of my blog, but I can't seem to get them listed the way I want. Comments and suggestions always welcome.

  1. Love the candle effect, think you ought to make another one so it is possible.
I use to have the meat dept split my turkeys length wise so I only had to cook half at a time.
No idea on the blogger problems.

  2. Hi Patti, thanks, there's something so romantic about those tea lights that sparkle with their patterns on the walls and ceilings, that's what I was thinking about. I got this turkey frozen at a discount grocery so I don't think they'd accomodate the cutting part. Half would be nice though, this one was 15 pounds so not too big.

  4. Great repetition of triangles on your pierced pot. Thanks for showing your inspiration for your pieces. That's one thing I really enjoy about your blog.
That turkey looks yummy! Why not make turkey salad and serve veggies like celery, peppers, or tomatoes on the side so guest can stuff.

  5. Hi Meredith, thanks, I didn't think about the tea light at the time being in the RV, I might just have to make more. This one has a wheel bottom too, I'll have to make a solid bottom for a new ones.

Hi Judith, thanks, turkey salad, that sounds good I might make some and put it on celery for an appetizer. Cold is better too cause I need to take it to the gallery reception for the guests.

  7. Gotta make another one! It would be great with the candle light through the spokes... Your plan to cook the turkey and freeze some for later meals is what I've been trying to do as well. I am really good with meal-planning for awhile, and then it all falls apart when another part of my life gets super busy. Ah well... progress, not perfection!
    Have a great day!

  8. Hi Patricia, thanks, thats the same for me. I say I'm going to get organized and then something comes up and I forget all about it. I recently put up a dry erase board on the side of the frig to keep me more organized and help with remembering what I need when I go out so I don't have to make so many trips, rising fuel prices are killing us.

  9. Hi Ronna, thanks, that is a coincidence we both have the cooked bird photos, I always figure on the blog a photo says a thousand words, but I tend to be wordy too. Ha.
