About a week ago I heard some red shouldered hawks screeching around our house, I went outside to investigate and saw two hawks in the lone nest at the top of our liquidamber tree mating. I couldn't get a good photo at the time and wondered if they'd come back. If you click on the link and go to sound and click you can hear the sound of hawks screeching.
Yesterday I heard them screeching and looked out the window and saw the female in the nest. I took a few photos through the glass. She adjusted the leaves and branches for a while and then settled in for a rest.
All the while the male called to her but she stayed put, testing out the nest for size. I sat back down and later she flew off. I wish I had a camera with a better telephoto for bird photos. I wanted to get a photo of her flying off to show you her wings, but I wasn't as patient as her. I don't think she's laid any eggs yet. I wonder if she'll be back today?
How great you are going to be able to view the whole process. The good thing, you won't have any rats or snakes, the bad, pretty sure any song birds will go elsewere.

ReplyDeleteHow exciting to keep watch. I think she'll be back. I kept an eye on a bird last year and her offsprings, two made it one didin't. So I buried her/him in my backyard. I too wish I had a better camera, but the lasting visual in my mind is there for ever.

ReplyDeleteWe have a pair of hawks living near us (not this near) We also still have plenty of song birds, squirrels and chipmunks. They are beautiful to watch, I hope you get to see them raise chicks.

But I think a year of time will show noticeable results, but I know that doesn't help the frustration, I've been there before myself, hang in there.
