Slipping Up

There was some slipping up in the studio yesterday, on some flowers that is. I put down one color of slip and then drizzled another color and combed or brushed through it haphazardly to see what I'd come up with. Sometimes I have to play around with the clay and techniques to see how things will turn out. These colors will change after firing, so we shall see. Black and white would have made a nice contrast, but I am out of the white stoneware for now.

When I was a kid we had tumblers and each had a different color, so why not for bowl sets. For the patterns above that I like I'll make larger bowl sets with one pattern and the same color. I could also make sets with the same color and a different pattern. So many possibilities.

In other news, one of my photographs will be used in a TV documentary in Texas; they contacted me via a phone call from my blog. So be sure to have your contact information listed on your blog, because you never know who may want to contact you. Thanks for reading and for your comments.

  1. You mentioned those tumblers to me when I was making a soup bowl set. I took your advice and the set is beautiful. Thanks

  2. Hi Lori, thanks, I forgot about that, but it is a good idea. I had three siblings and we each had our favorite color tumbler, it makes eating fun for kids somehow, hey and adults too. Glad they turned out so well. Did you post them on your blog or are they on etsy, I'd love to see them?

  4. congratulation on your photo getting some exposure (couldn't resist)!
have you ever read, or do you own, the book "Surface Design for Ceramics" by Maureen Mills? It's a Lark book and she demonstrates lots of different slip techniques. I think you would enjoy it. I know Maureen from NH.

  5. Hi Zygote, thanks so much; we'll see how they turn out after firing.

Hi Michele, thanks, no I haven't seen that book, I'll have to check it out; there are so many possibilities in clay, how can I contain or channel myself, it is so hard.

  6. Pretty cool Linda- let us know when at airs.
There is no end to clay and slips and such- no end.
I keep telling myself get a grip and get back to work and then an idea comes pouring out and I just have to try....

  8. Hi Meredith, thanks, yes ideas keep popping out all over the place, well at least clay isn't boring ha. Supposedly they are emailing me for a release, but haven't received it yet. The photo will just be in the background I am sure, and in my estimation it isn't even a good one, but we shall see. Ha.

Hi Patti, thanks, it is a documentary and they are just in the process of making it so not sure how long it will be, but it was flattering and I am glad they called to ask permission to use it.

    Hi Patti, thanks
