Adrift and Clinging

Here are two more wall sculptures, large flat tiles, which are about ten inches square. After firing I'll attach a mechanism on the back to hang them on the wall. The first is a vine on a brick wall clinging to life; the next a sailboat adrift in what appears to be calm waters, except the waters go on forever.

I like the blended and multicolored hues of the bricks; this wall sculpture is really growing on me, no pun intended. Now that I look at it I could have had the vine go beyond the brick. I might make another one and do that. I think I could change the water patterns in the second one, maybe the third color should have been green instead of lavender.

I made a large chick(en) tile, but it's rather strange looking, four ghostly chicks, I need to make a few more tiles to try and hone my raw emotion into something more recognizable before I post them. Posts about the albino mystery and more recipes coming soon. Happy Monday to you. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. You're bricks look great. I do some brickwork on pots too and have found it is really fun. Your images don't make me as sad as your commentary about them, I hope all is well with you.

  2. Hi Lori, thanks, I think these two are a reflection with what is happening with the economy in our country right now. I am sure so many folks are clinging to life monetarily and feel helpless, like drifing in a sea of water, as to what the can do about the situation to change it. I know I feel that way right now.

  3. Oh Lori, I remember you did have some pos with bricks on your blog when I first visited a year or so ago. I'll have to go back and look at them, thanks for the reminder.

  4. I really like that brick and vine but am sorry if they remind you of darker emotions. I found the stableness of the brick comforting.

  5. Hi Patti, thanks, you know that's how brick is, there is a lot of brick in Arkansas and I find a stabilizing influence, solid, made of clay, (yeah) and withstands winds and the elements very well. I think if we can cling to something strong we'll be ok.
