Boniato

The other day I stopped at a local vegetable stand and saw a root vegetable called boniato, a relative of the sweet potato. I decided to give it a try. Apparently the boniato is quite popular in Florida. Please check the link for some interesting facts and recipes on how to prepare boniato. I'm going to try the Scalloped Boniato and Pineapple.

While looking for recipes I have learned the sweet potato or boniato was often depicted in Moche culture in their pottery. That's a potato water vessel fashioned by a potter from the Moche culture. I'm fascinated by these ancient people from Peru and have been reading about them.

This cottontail was in our back yard the other day. I didn't remember to say white rabbit this morning, but Gary did, hope that helps. Today I'm installing the pottery exhibit at the library. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Wow! Have you thought about making these into whistles? Just a thought. It is really very interesting just the way it is.

  2. Hi Natalie, thanks, that is not my pottery, it is an ancient pot from Peru by the Moche people. I once made a whistle, but had a hard time getting it to give up it's sound, I guess I don't have enough patience for that.

  3. Let us know how the boniato turns out. It is new to me.
Even after you reminded me I forgot also. Guess I will have to make my luck.

  4. That's a beautiful piece at the top. I'm interested in ancient Peruvian culture too.
You are so brave to try all the newly discoverd food items..I'm not so adventurous. Although if it's a relative to the sweet potato, I'd give it a go.

We both remembered white rabbit this morning..YAY! I'm so happy that I first heard about it from you.

Good luck with the library show. You have some amazing things.

  6. Hi Patti, thanks, I'll be making it tonight and let you know.

Hi Barbara, thanks, most of the foods I've tried I have liked; I guess I am sort of the adverturous type. I hope you have good luck the whole month.

Hi Nancy, thanks, I bet you know some good Cuban recipes; have you been to Cuba? I lived there as a child and loved the island; hope we all get some cooler weather soon.
