Might Have To Keep The Birds

As I attach the wires on the back of each wall sculpture I hang it up to see how it looks. When I put the wires on these three tropical birds I had an idea to hang them as a group. They look so good together above this dresser I use for storage in my studio I might have to keep them. Their black background picks up the black iron of the lamp. When I made these I actually envisioned the two upper ones hanging above a window facing each other which might look good too. But for this space I like this arrangement. I'm taking this photo at night so the lighting isn't that good, I'll take another photo during the day.

Meanwhile I have some of the wall sculptures packed up ready to take to a couple of galleries. I can fit four of them in these smaller containers with a piece of foam between them. I have larger bins I use for my other pottery, but these would be too heavy if I filled a larger bin. I wish I had a scale to weigh each one to see how heavy they are. They don't feel heavier than a painting would feel that I hang on a wall. The smiling alligator is dying to get out of the container. Ha! He feels the heaviest; I guess because he is double thickness where the alligator is or maybe he ate too much.

These sculptures can also be displayed on an easel instead of hanging on the wall. Another idea is to place one in a cubbyhole of a large book shelf to break up the monotony of shelf after shelf of books. Completed wall sculptures are available in my Studio Pottery Shop. Well back to work. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Hello Linda:
We are so very taken with the way in which you have displayed your art works. Each piece of sculpture looks so good with the iron based lamp but if we we were you, then we should certainly keep the birds. An ideal spot and most effective when grouped together as you have done.

  2. Hi Jane and Lance, thanks so much. I just used a nail which was close by and then started looking at the birds and thinking, hey, those might look good that way. Something a little different than the norm.

  3. The birds with the lamp really make a striking grouping. You should keep them. Don't know how you part with any of your creations.

  6. That's a great lamp by the way, I am a big lamp fan. I like the stand with the tiles, such a nice alternative for wall hangings. Especially good for people that might rent and can't hang things on walls or for those with little wall space left, like me. I have a place in my living room, where I hang pieces for awhile and look at them until I decide how much I like them or not.

  9. My bookshelves are really an assortment of books, artwork and personal doo-dads. Each of these do look very nice next to the lamp and I like art pieces displayed on easels. It's a nice change from the wall.

Yeah, I can see why you want to keep the birds.

Love the tiles, especially that gator.

  12. Hi Patti, thanks, well the bills mounting in the drawer make me do it. Ha.

Hi Judy, thanks, I've been making these over the last several months, but drying, firing, acrylics, mounting and sealing all take some time to get them all ready.

Hi Meredith, thanks, I have kept so much already though, only so much room.

Hi Tracey, thanks, I have a pair of these lamps and they have a leather shade but I know I got them inexpensively somewhere when I did, but I do like them. I didn't think about folks renting, good point.

Hi Michele, thanks, they do look nice there, but I already have a photo for that spot, Hum?

Hi Teresa, thanks, I like that aspect of decorating, you can have a whole knew look just by changing things around.

  13. Hi Suzi, thanks, yeah I only have so much wall space around here, the easels are a another way to go.

Hi Linda, thanks, the bottom line is I do need the money so now that they rested on the way a few days, they may need to fly away, after all it is migration time. Ha.
