Can You Feel Him

Can you see him,
look closely,
he's hiding among the leaves and berries.
Can you see him,
look closely,
he's hiding in your mind's eye.
Can you hear him,
listen closely,
he's chirping in the tree.
Can you hear him
listen closely
he's chirping in your inner ear.
Can you feel him
look closely, listen closely
he's all around you.

One day the bird above was hiding in the tree outside my studio window. Every once in a while he would peck on the window. I think I've mentioned we have reflective film on our windows and often birds think they see themselves or a rival in our windows. I have the benefit of observing different birds close up without them knowing. It's as if each one is telling me something when they visit here.

I wanted to show you him hiding among the berries and wondered if you'd see him. As I typed the title to this post, this poem came to me. This may seem like a religious poem and that's OK. But if you know anything about me, you'll know the poem is about what I believe, about one of my passions - a feeling for, a respect for, a desire to live in peace and harmony with the universal god of nature. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. I had to enlarge the photo to know what I was looking at. Lovely thoughts.

  2. Hi Barbara, thanks, I knew where he was so I could pick him out, but it is interesting to try to find the bird among the branches, I love how creatures have their own camouflage.

  4. So many small birds have banged into my window because it reflects the sky. I don't know what to do about it. So far, no dead birds on the ground, thank goodness.

  6. Hi Ronna, thanks, we humans are so lucky to have such beauty around us.

Hi Gigi, thanks, so far here birds only peck, but at my last studio I had a mirror hanging up outside and it reflected a tree and two birds flew into it and died, I can still see them lying there and painted out the mirror that very day. I have heard that stickers can be placed on the windows to warn the birds. I think there is a site that tells what to do, you might do a search on google.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, perhaps age makes me feel free enough to post what I think, Ha.

  7. This seems to be a time for visiting animals....ang over at http://angdesign.blogspot.com/ had a koala visit for a few days. We have deer and strange howls (coyotes and fisher cats) in the woods at night.

I'm enjoying your poems....food for thought!

  9. Not a cat at all...closely related to the marten (weasel family) but bigger and one of the reasons why my four legged buddies no longer roam outside.

  10. Hi Suzi, thanks, is it the same thing as a pole cat, perhaps I have heard of them once long ago.
