An Early Start

I'm getting an early start, a jump on Spring if you will. I started some radish and snow pea seeds indoors and they sprouted in less than a week.

I think I should have started the radishes in the ground because they are sending their roots right out of the bottom. Guess I'll be transplanting them this week.

I love fresh snow peas. They are so expensive in the grocery store I thought I'd grow some of my own. I didn't use up all of the seeds so I can start more seedlings in another month.

Meanwhile Florida Artists Gallery is moving to a new location so I had to remove my work from the old building. Monday I'll take it to the new building. I found a glass display at a used furniture store for the new location so stay tuned for more about that. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. we were just talking yesterday that this weather would have been great for lettuce- it will probably be too hot by March!
Love your shrine and your back burner....

  2. Hi Meredith, thanks, I might be able to get away with a later start since one of my raised bins is in the shade; those lettuce seeds are so small I have a hard time with them. I used to have one of those seed dispensers but not sure where it is any more. Thanks about the shrine. I may make a list of my back burner ideas as I am sure I have a ton of things I could be making that I've forgotten about, a list might help organize me.

  3. i haven't had a full blow garden in probably 20 years. we are slowly getting a garden growing here. thank you for reminding me about snow peas. they are so easy to grow and you always get an abundant amount. we have swiss chard, broccoli, and garlic growing now. we keep it tented with plastic to protect it from the occasional frost.

  5. Hi Michele, thanks, I had a huge garden in California with raised beds and I've been missing all the fresh vegetables so I'm hope to ease back into a few more here. Weather is so much different here I have to work at getting stuff to make it. How to you prop up your plastic so it doesn't weight the plants down? At one location I made a wood framework and here I was thinking of making a pvc frame and attaching the plastic to it since we have blocks I could insert he pvc into the block to keep it suspended above the plants.

  7. Love those snow peas early in the spring. When I lived in Gainesville I planted them (many yrs ago). I don't have land without a real rocky problem now in NC...so you can enjoy the peas for me. Good luck with gardening in FL!

  8. Hi Barbara, thanks, yes I can eat those snow peas right off the vine they are so good. Gardening here will be a whole new experience since I am from California and it is dry there and here it is so humid, we shall see. Ha.
