Pit Fire Pictorial

My friend Fran and I did a small pit fire today as a preliminary test. After the wood turned to coals and the fire was smoldering, we banked soil up around the edges and covered the pit with a piece of steel sheeting. Results coming up soon. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. What fun! I used to do a sort of pit fire using a large metal trashcan with nice results. Can't wait to see yours uncovered!

  2. Hi Charlene, thanks, I've also done the several barrel firings before with a 55 gallon drum. This time I was thinking there might be more heat build up if the fire was partially enclosed, thus the banking it with the dirt on the sides and the covering. We just put some seconds in the fire to test it out and will try again after we see what we get.

  4. Hi Suzi, thanks, I am dying to see the results, but Gary has the car this morning so I don't have a way to get over to Fran's house to see the unveiling. I'll call her in a little bit to see if she has uncovered the pit.

  6. Hi Tracey, thanks, I was thinking kind of so, so about a pit firing, but now I'm thinking I might be able to put some of my shrines and other pieces in one and I am re-energized about the fire process. Won't be much in the way of photos cause we just put some seconds in the fire as a test, but we shall see.
