Quinoa For Breakfast

Since I'm gluten free, I don't eat wheat based cereal any longer. Every once in a while I eat some quinoa for breakfast with some cinnamon and either a dash of brown sugar or a splash of agave nectar. Cinnamon is supposed to lower cholesterol, so I don't feel guilty if I use it liberally. Quinoa is cooked just like rice. For every cup of quinoa, use two cups of water. Although it is expensive, it fluffs up to more volume than rice and I think the nutrional benefits are worth the cost. Click the link above to see all the vitamins and minerals in this delicious pseudo grain. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

This is a grain I have not tried. I will have to put it on my list.

  2. Linda, I too am gluten free. Hadn't thought of eating quinoa for breakfast though I cook it a lot for dinner! If you are a member of or know someone with a membership to Costco they have a big bag of organic quinoa for $9.99. I always stock up there.

  3. Wesley and I used to make a pot of quinoa for supper when she was here. I add chicken broth and broccoli, so yummy!

  4. Hi Meredith, thanks, this grain, although it is a really a seed, is very mild in flavor and lends itself to sauces or to be just eaten plain.

  5. Hi Jennie, thanks, we used to belong to Costco, but quit going since the drive was an hour one way, but we know someone who is so I'll check with them to get me some from there, thanks for the tip.

Hi Tracey, thanks, I haven't tried this quinoa other than plain and for breakfast I may try it with your recipe too.

  6. Oh Meredith, thanks about the story, kind of sad my parents never shared anything about their respective heritages and cultures, when you get to a ripe old age like mine you start thinking about the past I guess.

  7. It looks good, I will give it a try as I am always looking for new. Cinnamon I hear is also good for diabetics or the prevention of. I put some in my coffee each day.

  8. Quinoa is great for dinner. You can add anything to it. I do it with sauteed onions, add the quinoa and broth and some herbs de provence. When done stir in a bit off asiago or parmesan and it makes a great side dish!
