A Few Dishes

Here are a few dishes from this firing. There's lots of uses for these such as soap dishes, ring dishes, votive holders, tea light holder, or appetizer dishes. What would you use them for?

The next two pieces were made with left over slabs of clay. I decided to work on some designs for tea light holders above and butter tray below.

In case you're interested here are some close ups to see how the glazes pool or break in the texture.

In other news we're expecting some low overnight temperatures so Gary and I are rigging up something to cover the snow peas, radishes, and lettuce I've planted in the one of the raised vegetable bins. Thanks for reading, comments and suggestions are welcome.

  1. Hi Linda, these are great, love the texture patterns and have always liked the variation in glaze over texture. These should go like hot cakes! I think I would use them as something of interest on a coffee table just as they are...

  2. Hi Anna, thanks, I kind of hate to cover them up too. I think I'll make some more of these in larger sizes as serving trays.

  3. Good product. They look nice and should be easy to stack and pack for shows.

  4. Hi Dennis, thanks so much, I just stacked them up and you are right, I'd like to make a few more of these in various stackable sizes. Do you worry about them scratching when you stack them or do you put bubble wrap between them?

  5. Traditionally when fine china was stacked in cupboards, felt separaters were used. What a nice set these would make as desert plates...perhaps some in other sizes? Love your design did you make it?

  6. Hi Suzi, thanks, oh I can probably get some of those squares of felt in packs from Michaels and that would lesson the volume when packing them. The various textures are texture matts I have collected over the years.

  8. i like your textures, they play nicely with the glaze. i like to use little dishes when cooking... i often have my spices set aside on them to add to the pot at just the right time. there is something more enjoyable about that than measuring and adding from the spice bottle.
smaller ones are great for making & serving little dipping sauces for Asian Dumplings.

  10. I doubt that scratching would be a problem but to keep them quiet I put a piece of thin packing foam between each layer. You know,it's like bubble wrap but thinner and easier to work with. I have a friend who gets it free from a canoe livery. New canoes come wrapped with a sheet of it 7ft x 20ft then a similar piece of bubble wrap on top of that.

  11. Hi Michele, thanks, I used to cook like that, getting all the ingredients pre - measured but now I just chop it up or shake it in, but if I have company I sometimes do that, dipping dishes is a good idea.

Hi Dennis, thanks, what a good idea for recycling going to a canoe or boat livery, I will have to check that out because I think there may be a few around here.
