Canada Goose Decoy

We're continuing to lighten our load. We had another successful yard sale yesterday. Earlier in the week this Canada goose decoy I've had for years found a new home with a collector. The goose was solid wood with glass eyes and had it's original paint and patina. It was life size at 24 inches from the tip of tail to the front of the breast. The head extended out another 6 inches; the head stood at 20 inches tall and the height of body at 8 inches. The initials of MK were carved on the bottom.

Originally carved wood decoys were made to float in the water to attract wild birds to hopefully land close by so hunters could shoot them for food. Other decoys were made to sit on the ground near shore. Now most wood decoys are collected by both bird and folk art lovers. Most hunters purchase plastic decoys for hunting these days. The woman who purchased my goose for her husband was a potter, which is kind of cool, the goose moved from one potter's house to another. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  2. Hi Anna, thanks, yes, we are hoping to downsize and travel again one of these days. She and her husband were happy to admire all my pottery too, so that was fun.
