Cooter Pond Park

Near our home in the heart of the town of Inverness Florida is Cooter Pond Park which has a raised wood boardwalk where visitors can enjoy the beauty of the pond from above. The wildlife and plants below can be observed without disturbing them. It's truly a wonderful place to visit.

Spatterdock and Duckweed

I found inspiration everywhere I looked. I did see one small alligator, but he was almost submerged and the photo wouldn't have shown you much. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  2. Hello Linda:
We love the idea of a wooden 'boardwalk' over the water in order to see everything close at hand. But, oh, if we had caught sight of an Alligator....even a small one....then, we should have been running for home!

It all looks very calm and peaceful from the photographs, surely a lovely place to relax!

  3. Hi Mark, thanks, the alligators are sedentary most of the time, patiently waiting for their prey to come near, they will eat those birds I took the photos of and the rabbits too. I've yet to see one catch anything when I was looking though. We are so lucky to have so many parks nearby us. Actually Florida is full of wonderful places to visit and many of them are free. When we lived in California, there weren't many parks which were free, but lots of forests to explore. We love traveling and observing nature and the wide open spaces.

Hi Jane and Lance, thanks, oh we are quite safe on the boardwalk from the alligators because it's up about 15 feet and the alligator could not get up there. The alligators are more active at dawn and dusk but walking along the shore could be dangerous especially from a big one. Most in this pond are smaller ones, less than six feet long.

  4. Thanks for the morning walking tour. Your cooters look a lot like our local turtles that sit lined up on rocks and submerged branches.

  8. Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, I read that these turtles are found all the way up to Canada and over to the rocky mountains too so this is probably the same species. Last time I went there they were all lined up on a log, but this time I only saw the one.

Hi Lori, thanks, yes we are lucky to live close by and that it's free to enjoy better still.

Hi Gigi, thanks, there are a lot of beautiful spots around here.

Hi Michele, thanks, oh I'll have to see if I can find that park in Naples, I love boardwalk parks.
