Green Inspiration

Sunday Gary and I went to another park which I'll post about next Sunday. While we were there I saw some beautiful green leaves and was inspired to make some pieces in clay with the leaves.

I used cypress leaves and a eucalyptus seed pod for this platter. The texture is hard to see but hopefully when I glaze this piece the glaze will break in all the depressions in the clay. At least that's my plan, hope it works.

Every time I used the eucalyptus seed pod I could smell the fragrance of the tree coming from the pod. Unfortunately after many uses my eucalyptus seed pod fell apart due to the repeated moisture from the clay. You can see parts of left in the clay.

I don't think there are any eucalyptus trees growing in Florida, what am I going to do now? Guess I'll have to find another cone to use as a substitute. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Hi, Linda, Thanks for stopping by my blog and leading me back here -- I like your cypress plate and those crab cakes sound yummy!

I grew up in Tampa and graduated from UF -- some of your pictures make me a little homesick...

  3. I have a friend in the Black Mountain Clay Studio who does imprints with leaves. I somehow just never have, enjoying the beauty of others' works. I expect yours will probably be just as lovely...can't wait to see how they glaze too!

  4. This month's PMI shows how to make stamps from wild flowers, I'll bet you can do the same for Eucalyptus although you wouldn't have the aroma.

  7. Hi Vicki, thanks, nice to see you here, well at least you have the memories of Florida to remember.

Hi Jane and Lance, thanks, yes my experiments much like the made scientist.

Hi Barbara, thanks, I've been using leaves since I first started in clay, I've gardened my whole life and all the plant parts intrigue me. I am just wondering how to glaze these latest pieces.

Hi Lori, thanks, I think I saw that article in CM before, but I don't even have one seed pod left to make an imprint, darn.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, another tangent, who knows where it will lead. Ha.

Hi Patti, thanks, sometimes I can't wait to see the results, then other times I forget all about them.
