Just More Colors

Just more colors on the square mini dishes.

I started tapping the corners of these dishes so they wouldn't be so sharp. Even a simple form can be improved.

These are all on the speckled stoneware. Oops, there are three on white clay, can you guess which ones.

Somehow I left out the greens, more work to be done.

These dishes can be used for soap, candles, appetizers, and they stack nicely. If you see a color you can't live without, let me know I'll load it up on the etsy shop as a reserve for you. This post is part of the Mud Colony what's happening in the studio this week. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. I love these little dishes! What are their measurements? I think the last glaze is my favorite.

  2. Hello Linda:
These are so very attractive and we can well see that not only do they look decorative but could also be put, as you suggest, to many practical uses. We particularly like the blue - a colour which always appeals.

  3. Hi Linda...those little square dishes are so practical and pretty. We should all throw out any plastic things left in our houses and have nothing but pottery!

  4. I wonder if non-potters know how much work goes into simple forms? The colors and textures are beautiful.

  5. Thank you for your comments about "stealing" photos. Several years ago I "picked up" a picture of a dog wearing a Snuggy and reposted it on my blog. A follower recognized it and directed me to the owner's blog. That is how I came to know Carmella at A Little Brown Blog. If you check it out, be sure to look at Carmella's impressive art collection under Art Hound. It's a hoot!

  6. When I went to put the dishes away I stacked them up and thought that would make a good photo, so I added that to the top. The next to the last blue one has glaze that broke to a brown color along the edge, it isn't a crawl, although it looks like it.

Hi Laurie, thanks, these are 5.75 x 4.5 x .75, some are one inch tall at the corner. I added a stack of them in the first photo.

Hi Jane and Lance, thanks, and I have several blues in there too, I am amazed at just how many color variations even in one color there is.

Hi Barbara, thanks, I am aiming at throwing all my store bought things away as I make my own pottery, something to aim for.

Hi Lori, thanks, I was just thinking that this morning, a simple little dish and texture it, form it, smooth the edges, tap the corner, sand the edges before bisque, bisque it, unload it, glaze it, load it again, fire it, unload it, photo it, pack it, sell it. Ha.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, I will check it out, the internet and blogging is truly amazing and I have learned so much via it too.

  8. Hi Michele, thanks, these are the most of one thing I have ever made, Ha. well except pendants.

Hi Katarina, thanks so much. I can't decide which one I like the best, probably the blue breaking to gold.

  9. Hi Linda, I like your colors a lot. The textures are very uplifting and fun. Are you forming these by hand or are you doing the foam punch technique? Super nice results :)

  10. Hi Cindy, thanks, I am using the foam punch technique, I saw it on Ceramics Daily a few years ago and then on Michele's blog and finally decided to try it after I could afford foam which was thick enough, that stuff isn't cheap that's for sure.

Finally after all these years I'm becoming more efficient in my making techniques which allows me the time to do the hand built carts, boxes and birdhouse etc which take so much more time..
