Rustic Vine Cart

These carts take a lot of wear and tear carrying the loads of life. As I was loading the bisque, one of the overhead rails broke off this rustic vine cart. The rails are very thin and the slightest bump will break them till they're bisque fired. I patched it with vinegar slip and it held in the bisque. Now that it's been glazed there's a small crack in the rail which doesn't go all the way through. I have a couple of construction revisions in mind for future carts. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. That's the problem with these delicate pieces. It's a good thing you could save it. I think it looks great.

  2. Hi Lori, thanks, I think I might dab a little clear finger nail polish on the top of the crack to minimize it but I was amazed that the vinegar and slip held the pieces. I put it on right before the bisque and loaded it up, amazing.

  3. Good save! It's absolutely lovely, and the fragile nature makes it all the more so. We appreciate things which are held together barely! At least I do.

  4. Your cart's truly beautiful. Happy you were able to save it. There's a slight Chinese aura that appeals.

  6. Instead of trying to minimize the crack, why not emphasize it and make it part of the structure? If a real cart broke it would probably be repaired and go back into use...........just s thought.

  9. Hi Barbara, thanks, I am my own worst enemy when it comes to breaking stuff before it's fired, thank goodness for vinegar.

Hi Kittie, thank, the Chinese aura must be from the color I chose for the body perhaps, thanks so much.
