Crumpled Basket

This would have been a nice tall basket but it collapsed. I have it lying on it's side now. Standing up it was approximately 14 inches tall by 6 inches wide. I tried to patch it together, it's not easy letting those twenty or more strips of clay get the better of me, but it was too far gone. I would have added one more strip around the top interior and  perhaps a couple of small handles on opposing sides. All I have to show is this crumpled basket. I'll try another one again today. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. I like it even if it has collapsed *smile*. Have a nice start of the week.

  2. Oh no, all that work. It takes a certain stoicism to work in ceramics.

  3. Hello Linda:
Oh, how very disappointing. The basket weave looks so pretty and the tall basket would have been a beautiful piece. Well, we certainly admire your philosophical view on it all....did you not just do a little bit of screaming and shouting?!!!

  4. I've never tried weaving clay...you're a more adventuresome potter than I am! Sorry this one didn't hold up. It's kind of interesting in this shape though! However, not having been fired yet, the clay can still be reconstituted...one of my favorite practices!

  6. You should fire it anyway as a sculptural piece!

  7. That would look terrific with some ivy or morning glories interwoven through the weave!

  8. Ouch. Good for you for carrying on, you'll make something just as good or better.

  9. Hi Elna, thanks a collapsed smile, cool.

Hi Melissa, thanks, yes stocism for sure.

HI Jane and Lance, thanks, normally I probably would have been screaming and shouting but I was too busy trying to save it, finally I just put it in the cabinet like that.

Hi Barbara, thanks, yes there is the advantage of reconstituting.

Hi Michele, thanks, back to the drawing board.

Hi Julia, thanks, not sure I'll fire it, what would I do with it and would someone want it? If not I've got too much stock as it is.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, oh you have given me an idea for another basket, see how it's never ending, Ha.

Hi Lori, thanks, there's always room for improvement in my work that's for sure.

  10. Well, I can see how very much work you put into this, and what a disappointment to have it collapse.
As you know, I am not a potter, but the collapsed shape appeals to me as a sculptural piece. I can also see the crumpled part cut off, and the rest as a berry basket laying on it's side. I try to find the humor in every mishap.

  11. Hi Barbara, thanks, there is something pleasing about seeing woven patterns, I guess that's why I posted it here. it is fun to look at. I'll keep exploring the weaving and see what else I come up with.
