Dome Covered Jar

Here's another strip stacked piece, a dome covered jar.

I marinated and smoked redfish the other day, boy was it good.

Photos before and after smoking. This post is part of Mud Colony and Artists in Blogland what's happening in the studio this week. Thanks for all your comments.

  7. That is the one way I enjoy fish, smoked. I used to eat smoked mullet which is basically a bait fish.

  8. Never tried to make a strip stacked piece. Never tried redfish either. Does it taste like salmon?

  9. Hi Suzi, thanks, after I made it I was thinking I could have made the knob with stacked strips too, but that can be for the next one. Ha.

Hi Michele, thanks, sorry about that, we are so lucky we found that smoker at that estate sale, it makes the best smoked fish.

Hi Lori, thanks, I decided to make a few of these without any colors so I can glaze them to see how they turn out.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, I try to let myself go; sometimes it works, other times not. Ha.

Hi Patti, thanks, I tried the smoked mullet and didn't like it but it may also be the way they marinate it, I try to utilize a variety of ingredients in my marinade and the redfish turned out great.

Hi Amy, thanks, as far as I know using these stacked strips is something I haven't seen done before now. I thought of it after I was using them for the baskets and decided to try stacking them up together. Of course one never knows if someone else in the world may have done something similar. The redfish has a white flesh but is flaky like salmon, really very good. I think the name redfish comes from the color of the upper skin on the fish.
