Fresh Blueberries

We are so lucky to live close to several outdoor farmer's markets where we live. Yesterday for twenty one dollars we purchased the following from Croft Produce Market at 600 N Croft Avenue in Inverness, Florida.

2 shallots
4 mangoes
4 Haas avocados

one large eggplant
2 zucchini squash
2 crookneck squash
l large fresh ginger root

1 large bunch of broccoli
1/2 pound sugar snap peas
1 small bunch of bananas
1 large basket of fresh mushrooms
1 small basket of fresh raspberries
1 extra large basket of fresh blueberries

While I was there they said they sold 1500 pounds of fresh blueberries this past week. The shimmery gold and blue green leaf plate above available in my Etsy shop is perfect for serving fresh blueberries. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Wow! You got all those gorgeous fruits and veggies for only twenty dollars? That's a fantastic buy and the extra gift is that it's from a farmers' market, so it's fresh and the food is 'real,' as opposed to processed or irradiated or Monsanto'd.

Our nearest farmers' market, sadly, is a little over an hour's drive away, and is only open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but well worth going, as all farmers' markets are.

Thanks for this, Linda. I now feel compelled to bake my house specialty (according to the hubby), of mixed berry pie - blueberries, raspberries, blackberries....nature's candy. Have a lovely weekend! - June in Ireland

  3. We are fortunate to have many Farmer's Markets in the area including one within walking distance from my house. It seems they are popping up in every community around me, a trend I really love seeing.
I've just started picking the blueberries we have growing at the house, they are so flavorful this year.

  4. I love seeing fresh berries on pottery, they really seem so right together. What a wonderful shopping list - and such amazing value. If, as they say, "You are what you eat" then you two should be brimming with good health after that lot.

  5. What a haul!! My mouth is watering over those blueberries. Everything else sounds just wonderful too. Good eats for you and Gary. We've had a really good crop of peaches in Texas this spring, and sweet corn. Just bought the first TX watermelon from the fruit stand on the corner. Hopeful that it will be red and tasty!

  8. You are all set for some great, healthy eating and that blows the theory that people can't afford to eat healthy.

  9. Hi June, thanks, we did get an amazing buy didn't we. Over an hour seems a long way to get to the market. Bet that mixed berry pie is delicious.

    Hi Elna, thanks so much.

Hi Lori, thanks, now that is cool you can walk to a market, I think the markets are fun to go to and just stroll around, relaxing.

Hi Elaine, thanks, getting these berries should prompt me to make some individual berry bowls, so many lists and so little time. Ha.

Hi Barbara, thanks, I have yet to get any good peaches here even though they bring in the Georgia peaches, perhaps they travel too far. I miss my peach trees from California of Red Haven and Fay Alberta, they were the best. Of course anything home grown is better than them all. Gary doesn't eat watermelon due to allergy so I rarely get it, but perhaps I'll get one that's cut up at the grocery as I do really like them.

Hi Meredith, thanks, I'll bet your blueberries are the best, it may be an early year indeed.

Hi Michele, thanks, we are trying to eat as healthy as we can.

Hi Patti, thanks, the produce market charges much much less than the grocery store so we are taking advantage of that fact, lucky for us.
