Great Crested Flycatcher

I think this is a Great Crested Flycatcher. I took the photo through my window so it isn't the clearest, but he was so sweet sitting in the tree I just had to show you. There was actually a pair of them in the tree but I could only get one in the photo.

Here's the leaves from this firing. Pairs of each with the same glaze.

Except for the red ones I have four of them. The red ones are actually shiny but my photo cube is in the garage and the lighting there is different than in the house I guess.

These leaves can be used as a spoon rest, as candle holder, or for soap, even a bread and butter plate. Or they're just pretty to look at. They curve up just slightly on the edges.

It's hard to see in the photos, but in person the veins show up nicely with these glazes.

These were supposed to be more blue and shiny and they are a blue green and very matt. I'm still amazed at how an oxidation firing can be different each time even with the same glaze and firing schedule.

This is the second set of the red ones. Coming up soon a woven sculpture so please check back. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  3. Love the glazed leaves, but would like to be able to see the glaze detail in those veins...I do know how hard it is to show in photos what ceramics look like close up. Thanks for sharing with me.

  4. Really like the red ones and they would make a cool spoon rest.

  6. Interesting to see the effect of different glazes on similar objects. Lovely photo of the flycatcher, you've done really well to capture it, and I wouldn't have known that there was a window in the way!

  7. Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, I've seen this bird before but never knew it was a fly catcher, glad they are around here. Ha.

Hi Joanne, thanks, every stovetop deserves one of these leaves gracing it.

Hi Barbara, thanks, next time I'll take a close up, I guess that's why etsy wants us to take close ups, if I list them there I'll let you know so you can click on over.

Hi Patti, thanks, I figured folks would like the red so that's why I made four of them.

Hi Lori, thanks, another vote for red, Ha.

Hi Peter, thanks, I am so lucky to have that tree outside my studio window and all the birds seem to like landing there in the mornings and afternoons, sometimes it's rather distracting seeing them, but no complaints. I often then I wish I had lots of duplicates of pieces to see what they would look like with different glazes.
