Carolina Chickadee, Knots of Toads

This basket is about 12 x 6 x 4 inches. I think it would have been better with just the bow or just the bird, but not both. I don't dare try taking them off however because I'd mess something up. Oh I just had an idea. I made the bow separately, but next time I make the top strip longer and tie a knot. Remember the other one like this I had the bird on the handle and then I thought it would be hard to pick up with a bird on the handle. Now I think the bird on the handle looked better. I may have to make another one like that. This little bird is singing just like the Carolina chickadee that was outside my window the other day. See previous post to see the bird and below is a youtube of one singing. I guess the Carolina chickadee has a different sound than the northern chickadee.

There's a whole crop of new frogs, probably toads, outside. Literally hundreds of them are hopping everywhere. They're no bigger than the size of a dime. I have to be real careful where I walk. When the sun gets higher in the sky all the toads seem to jump in a Northerly direction. Gary said there were lots of them at the post office hopping everywhere too. This must be when they're all born, when the humidity is higher in the summer. A group of toads is called a knot. So there are knots of toads around here.

I found out it's easy to give a refund via paypal. Go into your account, check the box for the transaction,  click details, type in the amount of the refund and then click submit. Yesterday was really hot and I didn't hear any birds or animals during the middle of the day. They all must have been hiding in the shade. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  5. I like the idea of the knotted handle. Perhaps tuck the bird in where the handle joins the pot.
A knot of toads...I like it!

  6. Yes, your chickadee sounds a lot different than mine do. The black-capped song goes "chic-a-dee-dee-dee"
and they sing it a lot.

  7. Love that little bird and the bow.
Are those little frogs green and REALLY loud. I can remember them being almost deafening.

  8. We have knots of toads around here too, I really have to watch very carefully when I am mowing, those tiny ones are so difficult to spot. I swear I spend more time on toad rescue than mowing at the moment.

The basket is cute, I enjoy watching your ideas evolve.

  10. I love the texture on the vase. How do you achieve that?

Scrolling down, I see you have a cat named Binky. One of my beloved cats, now long gone, had the same name.

  11. Hi Anna, thanks, we have knots of toads, that's fun to say. Ha.

Hi Michele, thanks, it was really easy to do on paypal.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, seeing all the birds and animals has me learning something new every day. birds on the east coast are different than the west too.

Hi Patti, thanks, I really think these little guys are toads we live on a dry ridge so not much water for them except when it rains.

Hi Elaine, thanks, I hate to think of all the guys that were lost when Gary mowed. Ugh.

Hi Laura, thanks, now to figure out how to glaze this one.

Hi Rosa, thanks, I cut strips of clay and add them one at a time like coils but they are flat not round, I butt the seams together, it takes a very long time, but it makes for an architectural texture that I rather like right now.
