Wahoo with Cilantro Pesto + Basket

This time I made wahoo with a cilantro pesto added after cooking. I started out sauteing some fresh chopped ginger and a small sweet onion in some butter and olive oil. Meanwhile I sprinkled the wahoo fillets with some ground cumin and then added them to the pan when the onions were translucent.

While the fillets were browning I chopped some fresh cilantro very fine and put it in my marble mortar along with a teaspoon of garlic and olive oil. I ground them all up together and when they were pulverized I squeezed half a lime into the mixture and stirred it up.

When the wahoo was cooked through I placed it on the plate and added the cilantro pesto over the top. I served it with some asparagus and some fresh tomatoes from the garden. I'll make cilantro pesto again, it was delicious on the wahoo which was also good.

Here's a strip stacked basket I made today. I split the handle and put part on the outside and part on the inside. I think the handle attachments could have been larger and more substantial.Or I could have made a button on each side as if a brad or screw were holding the handle to the basket. Too late to change it now. As one of my classmates used to say, "it is, what it is".

Here's how I held up the handle till it firmed up enough to stand on it's own. This post is part of Mud Colony weekly what's happening in the studio. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. I really like the basket..it's beauty lies in it's simplicity, for me at least. I like the form too, with that very slight bulge in the middle..very nice!!

  4. You seem to like cilantro a lot. I read once that about half of the population dislike the taste because it tastes soapy to them. I'm one of them, so I avoid anything with cilantro. I like basil however, so I wonder if it wouldn't be just as good with basil.

  6. Basket and food looking good! Cumin is one of my favorite flavors.

Hey, I just had an email message returned that i sent you some time ago. It was about a glaze you asked about on my blog. Anyway, the glaze is Temmoku Gold, or Gold dust Temmoku and is found by googling frogpond pottery.
Must have done something wrong in sending, but strange the message took so long to return.

  11. Hi Mark, thanks, the bulge was made by the clay speaking. I recently heard a quote by Shigetosi Nagazato saying pots are one third clay speaking, one third the firing speaking, and one third the artist speaking and if you expect to change the percentages get another career.

Hi Adriana, thanks, there was a period of time I didn't cook a thing, sometimes that's how life goes.

Hi Elna, thanks, food pictures on the internet do the same thing to me, make me hungry.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, cilantro is readily available, Gary didn't use to like it either, but now he does I think basil would be good too.

Hi Jennie, thanks, you could probably put this pesto on any white fish.

Hi Melissa, thanks, that is strange about the email, isn't it. weird.

Hi Lori, thanks, I had made up the pesto recipe and then I saw that others have made pesto with cilantro. Ha. I think any white fish it would be good on.

Hi Meredith, thanks, we are steaming down here too, it sure seems hotter than last year and more humid.

Hi Patti, thanks, I would hate to cook for a living, only for myself, too much work, thankfully Gary does the clean up. Ha.

Hi Joanne, thanks, I fired it about a month ago and loaded the photo a couple of weeks ago.
