Ferns and White Roses

Yesterday I wanted to see how my Green and Gold Basket would work for a flower arrangement. While I was at the grocery store I picked up some ferns and white roses along with some baby's breath. I didn't realize how nice this basket would work for a dinner table arrangement.

The height of the arrangement is just nine inches tall so folks seated at the table can see over the arrangement comfortably. If you want to remove the arrangement from the table the handle makes that much easier.

I used the same flowers for the two bird baskets to see how they looked. Since I use a strip stack method of construction there is always a chance there may be a leak in the basket, none for this one, yippie.

I think the bird on the side gives a nice touch. I like the simplicity of the white arrangement, would be nice for a wedding or for an anniversary.

When I made this basket I wasn't sure I liked the bow or ribbon on the front. But I think it looks nice with the flower arrangement. Not sure about the black bird, next time I'll try a different colored bird, perhaps white or coral or what color do you think?

We're having a bunch of thunderstorms moving through today, makes for a lazy Sunday. Hope you're taking it easy. Thanks for reading and for all  your comments.

  1. Looking good girl! If ever you get tired of making pottery, you sure could do flower arranging...your own boutique/florist. Don't miss my blog at the end where I talk about the Blue Star highway today!

  2. Hi Barbara, thanks, I took a couple of semesters of flower arranging when I lived in Northern California just for fun since I loved growing flowers, this was before I started working in clay who knew it would come in handy in another way. Ha. I'll check out your blogs, thanks.

  4. Hi Michele, thanks, I need to make more of these purse shaped baskets; I could arrange flowers all day long if I had the flowers and the vases, it's fun and relaxing too.

  6. The basket is really lovely and artistic! I also love that vase with the little bird - brilliant idea! And how nice it must be to come across that basked while wondering through the garden. Thanks so much for joining my blog! Christa

  7. Hi Elna, thanks so much.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, I love doing flower arranging.

Hi Christa, thanks, you know you bring up a good point of keeping the basket out in the garden is a good idea, better to collect some flowers with as one walks along.

  8. Like everyone else I think these baskets make perfect flower vases, especially the little low one. I really like the stacked look of the taller ones though and the birds are a great touch. I was a florist for a number of years and still love to make arrangements - like you I find it relaxing and so fun (now that I only have to please me and don't have to rush for the delivery truck!)
