Relegated

Here's another tower I made yesterday. The front and back are the same. For some reason I called this relegated tower. Whenever I save the images I have to save them with a name. I guess I could give them a number but that seems too mathematical, too inanimate somehow. Although they are inanimate objects, they seem to be more if held or observed.  Perhaps it's the feelings I have when I'm making the sculptures. The circle at the bottom is enclosed like arms which are linked. The arms showing a relegated stance.

My meditation bowl was featured in this Earth and Ocean Etsy treasury. Oh and I changed the name of my Etsy shop to Linda Starr Pottery. This post is part of Mud Colony what's happening in the studio, check the link out. Hope you're having a great week, thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. The relegated tower is very figurative. I agree about numbers, it seems a little impersonal for pottery.

  2. Hello Linda:
We echo the comment from Michele above. Your tower definitely has a figurative quality and a movement to it which suggests, at least for us, something more dynamic than relegation.

  3. The meditation bowl is really nice, I can see why it was included in that treasury.

I agree with the other comments about the tower.

  5. I don't know what a "relegated stance" means. I tried googling it, and didn't get anything. The only word I know means something like shifting responsibility to someone or something else, or perhaps organizing things into categories. So please educate me.

  6. Lovely stuff!

And I agree, pieces of art should be named.

  7. Relegated tower gave me the impression of some African tribal art. Very unique!

  8. I like your towers.
    You take good images too.
What do you use as a back drop?

  9. Hi Michele, thanks, I guess I could number my plates that are all the same texture but one of a kind pieces seem to need names. Ha.

Hi Jane and Lance, thanks, glad you see movement, she makes me think she is standing prim and proper somehow. I guess the stance is in the eyes of the beholder.

    Hi Lori, thanks so much.

Hi Turquoisemoon, thanks, pinterest is inspiring and somewhat addicting, but I like the interaction of the blogs better.

Hi Barbara, thanks, relegated means portioned off to a certain station or position in life either by societal expectations or perhaps by a faux pas one has committed and stance is just how one is standing. Somehow she looks like one of those dignitaries in a receiving line where she has to stand there and be formal when she doesn't want to, but perhaps you see something else.

Hi Pearl, thanks, and welcome to me blog.

Hi Sadhana, for the tower in this post I just used a flat piece of poster paper and sit it on the counter and taped up on the wall. for the towers on the right side of my blog I use a light box and graduated backdrop paper. the paper is draped so it doesn't have a crease at the back. I'll try to do a post for next thursday's mud colony to show how I take my photos.

  11. I like the relegated tower form, and I agree it has an anthropomorphic quality to it. For me, it brings African art and culture to mind.
