Broccoli as Inspiration

These are the trays after the bisque. I like the top fish tray better than the bottom one. I'm busy glazing and will probably fire late to night.

Here are the two rabbit trays. Someone mentioned that the rabbits looked like I had colored them with crayon. I used a very thin brush and randomly brushed the brown underglaze. They look like happy rabbits which was what I was after.

You're going to think I am crazy but this stalk of broccoli inspired me. I never lack for ideas of what to make in clay; inspiration is every where I look. I'd like to make a tower with this shape, a thick trunk bottom and a rounded head. It looks like a strange tree structure. I'm busy gathering the photos for the clay bloopers post. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have them together, so stay tuned. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Great stuff! Using a stalk of broccoli - wow, very creative. Will look for those prototypes. Happy all worked out. Still haven't got my photos from the Maine trip unscrewed. Sorry! This Apple is driving me nuts, lOL. About directions - yay, you understand. Oh, but I can get lost in a one-horse town!

  2. Inspiration can come from anywhere. Have you looked at baobab trees?

  3. As soon as I saw it I though of Dr. Seuss' Truffula Trees from The Lorax.

  4. Yes, keep on looking around for that inspiration that comes from anywhere! Can't wait to see broccoli tower! The comment about boabab tree made me smile...I love those trees and now I want to make one in clay! I just finished forming an evergreen tree, will try to remember to take camera to studio to get first stage photos.

  5. Not crazy. Didn't Turner use broccoli when he wanted to paint trees in the studio?

  6. The bunny plates are a delight. I adore brocolli, and did not get the opportunity to eat it until I had left home as my father (he who ate everything set in front of him) didn't like it so it was never on the menu. Pumpkin suffered the same fate. And also has a shape which is open to possibilites.
I do so love being invited to look at your work as you go - thank you.
