Fern Inspiration, Golden Polypody

The spores are seeds of new life ready to be dispersed. This is a Florida native golden polypody fern.

I only harvest a couple of leaves from our jelly palm tree, leaving the others to reproduce.

I made a two fern plates. Thanks for reading and for all your encouragement and comments.

  1. The fern plates are simply gorgeous. What sort of glazes were you thinking of using?

  2. Good looking plate! Do you need fresh leaves for every plate?

  3. Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, I was thinking of that mint green, or the green gold color.

Hi Suzi, thanks, no I can reuse them several times although these are rather fragile and are break up. I could carve them, perhaps I'll try that next time.

  4. Actually I did carve the outer edge because it wasn't that defined by the leaf impression. Just the spores were defined.

  5. Yes, real leaves make such a good "impression" (pun intended)

  6. I love ferns but I haven't ever had any luck growing them indoors and I have no place to grow them outdoors.

  8. The plates will be wonderful. My sister has a platter she bought years ago. These two fellows featured nature pressings. They were starting out at the time (weren't we all!) and had no canopy. It rained and they stood under umbrellas until it ended. Then they walked around emptying the pieces and drying them. I have such an image of them pouring water from cups.

  10. Hi Barbara, thanks, well I sure want to make a good impression. Ha.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, these are native and just appear on their own.

Hi Michele, thanks, I may make a template instead of cutting more ferns.

Hi Joanne, thanks, I've done a lot of leaf styled dishes through the years, so many lovely ones. Potters with perseverance, guess that's what it takes.

Hi Elna, thanks, yes a plate of fronds, so delicate yet so strong they are.
