Sleepy Sunday

Many times when I'm working in the studio my cat, Butter, (click link for a story on how Butter adopted us) is lying on the daybed across the room taking a snooze. How can a cat sleep like this with their arms up in the air? Some day I should roll a slab of clay, let my cats walk across it, and then make a pot. Just thought of that, might be kind of cool.

Got the kiln loaded because I planned on firing a bisque over night since it's still hot during the day. I didn't have as much work as I thought but enough to make it worth while to fire. While I was sanding the bottom, I broke the handle off a bird basket, gave a little sanding at the attachments, we'll see. Broke one curl off the random curls pot, vinegar slip attached it, we'll see. I turned the kiln on and five minutes later a lightening storm blew in. So I quickly turned the kiln off and unplugged it. Had to wait several hours to turn it back on. Coming up is a post on a salmon patty recipe and one on clay bloopers so please stay tuned. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. I am firing today too. Our weather has gone from bright sunny 75 to 45 with rain. I have always been excited by the connection that comes from knowing a fellow artist is in her studio creating.

  2. Hi Suzi, thanks, I hope your firing goes well, your dragon and all, mine is almost to temp, then cool down all day, open before bedtime. Then a dilemma on how to glaze some of the pieces. the blogs are the next best thing to having a potter friend next door, wish I did but the blogs are a godsend in that regard. We shall be getting cooler soon but not as cool as you till maybe December of January.

  3. Hey Linda- I would love a slow, sleepy Sunday.
I am fighting with myself over what I will get done today with the next weekend almost here.
I was just thinking about what I would rather do, knowing that I really need to load a bisque kiln.
No rest for the wicked right!
I enjoyed your last post- I love to see what is going on in the yard.

  5. You do know that if you want the cats to walk on the soft clay they will avoid it like hot coals.

  6. Hi Meredith, thanks, I wish I lived around the corner I'd come over to help you prepare. If you are anything like me you want to get it all done in advance so you can enjoy the celebration. We had the same spider as you with all the stitches, so much to see, that pond of yours would draw me down to procrastinate.

Hi Elna, thanks, isn't he the cutest? he is very big the biggest cat I have ever seen.

Hi Lori, thanks, you know after I typed that I was thinking the same thing, they would probably run the other way if I tried to get them to walk on it. I was picturing those concrete walks with foot or hand prints in them to commemorate some date of a building. Ha.

  8. Hi Michele, thanks, my mom used to make salmon patties too, it had been a long time since I had them, might as well make the bloopers be a fun thing even though they aren't so fun. Have a great day at the co-op.

  11. Butter is just beautiful. Both Jazz n Jewel are rescue cats and I would love to have a tenth of the flexibility that cats display.

  12. Hi Charlene, thanks, it had been years since I had salmon patties, just posted the recipe.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, cats are amazing, they really do have nine lives.

Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, they give us so much for so very little don't they, I hear you on the flexibility for sure.
