I Could Live There

We went to our local fish market, Shelley's Seafood Market, the other day. I got some octopus, will post soon about the recipe.

While we waited for the crowds to dissipate inside, I stepped out on their deck.

I observed all the comings and goings on the Homosassa River. Can you see the two snowy egret flying by below?

I could live there on the river. I could float in a small boat and let it rock my worries and cares away.

Today I was wrapping pottery packages for shipping. While I wrapped I dreamed of living on the river and of rocking in a small boat. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Hi Turquoisemoon, thanks, I know it sound gross, but they actually taste delicious, it picks up the flavor of whatever you cook it with. A person living near the sea learns to eat what is available to them, hearkening back to days of yore and a somewhat basic survival mentality. The octopus is a 'very reasonably priced' local catch at this fish market.

  2. On Sunday I watched the movie "Jiro Dreams of Sushi", great documentary by the way, and in the movie the sushi chef apprentices were massaging the octopus to make the sushi. They massage it for up to an hour!
Curious to read about how you prepared it.

  3. Hi Michele, thanks, I may have to see if I can find that movie since Gary loves sushi. I met a guy at the fish store and he said when he lived in Italy they just put onions in a pot with the octopus and it tenderized itself. I read on the internet about the massaging technique, but the owners of the fish market said they boiled it for an hour to tenderize it. I was just reading about octopus and how they are the most intelligent invertebrates and then I was feeling kind of sad that I will be eating one. Oh well, we shall see. I'll have to say a little homage to the creature for sustaining us.

  5. My brother in law always wanted to retire to a house boat. Interesting concept. I wonder where dreams and life mesh?

  6. I doubt I'd get any work done, I'd just sit around watching the water fowl all day. It is a wonderfully beautiful spot.

  12. Hi Gayle, thanks, watching all the birds and the listening to the lapping water was a real treat. I need to get to the beach. Ha.

Hi Joanne, thanks, we were looking at renting a houseboat down by the Keys, but the cost was way too much for us. Gary would like to live on a boat not me, I like to travel in them but I need some land too.

Hi Lori, thanks, yes I already do a lot of window watching where I live on the water it would be much worse for me too.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, I guess so they like the warm winters.

Hi Elna, thanks, that river gets a lot of boat traffic, not as much in winter, but summer it can get crowded.

Hi Dee, thanks, yes already dead sadly I was thinking after I wrote this post. But if I eat it I should be able to think of what I am eating when it was alive too, I think.

Hi Meredith, thanks, I could really like in that little shack, maybe some day. Ha.

Hi Peter, thanks, who knows what tangent I'll be off on next. Ha.

Hi Robyn, thanks, I could definitely imagine having my studio in such a building in a quaint little town, maybe one of these days Ha. I'd probably be making lots of fish, bird and boat drawings on my plates. Just might have to make some more of those this week.
