Gary's Sketches

Gary says he isn't an artist. I disagree. These are a few of his sketches.

One of these days I hope to make some decals and transfer some of these to clay.

I sold four leaves on Etsy in one week, what a surprise. Must be leaf season. Ha. The leaves are very versatile as a tea bag holder, spoon rest, ring dish, tea light holder, or they're just pretty to look at. Each one is made with a real leaf impression so no two are alike.

If you're looking for a leaf or small plate there will be more listed in my shop tomorrow. Prices in the shop include shipping in the USA. This post is part of Mud Colony what's happening in the studio. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Is this a glimpse into Gary's mind? Very interesting!

  2. Everyone has a bit of an artist in them. I like the top picture the best.

  3. You and Gary should do some collaborations, you make the pots and he draws on them!
Congrats on some good Etsy sales.

  4. Hi Gayle, thanks, he thinks outside the box. Ha.

Hi Lori, thanks, I think you are correct about there is an artist in everyone. I like the top one too. The second one is interesting in that the flower is geometric. I forgot to ask him if he drew the circles freehand. I think he did.

Hi Michele, thanks, that's what I was thinking. Maybe I'll make some plates today and when he comes home I'll give him some slip and a brush. I can call them Garlin plates - gar for gary and lin for linda. ha.

  5. Gary is an artist. Tell him I said so.

  6. Hi Joanne, thanks, I am going right out front where he is watering the shrubs and tell him you said so. Gary's mother was a beatnik and loved working with her hands and was into any number of things and she encouraged both of her children. Gary's sister has been an artist all her life, clay, then oil, now watercolor, so I just know some of that freedom of expresioon has rubbed off on him.

  7. Of course he's an artist, that's why you're a pair!

  8. Laura has been quietly secreting away various drawings that I have done, usually whilst talking to someone on the telephone. Occasionally they find a way into her own paintings, and it is fun to see them find a new life that way! Glad that Etsy appears to be working for you.

  9. He is indeed an artist. I would dispute the 'artist in all of us though'. For some of us, any artist is buried too deep for any archaelogist to find.

  10. Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, oh now I know. ha.

Hi Peter, thanks, oh how wonderful she is using some of your drawings in her work. Oh Etsy remains few and far between really, especially for the effort I put into all the photos and inputting the listing. Recently they changed their categories and I can find no rhyme or reasons for it, but I keep plugging along.

Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, well writing, humor, and photography are artistic and I think you fit both those categories, especially with your comment about the archaeologist. ha.
