Feelin' Groovy

Wish I could explore these strip stacked forms more right now. I tried my best to capture the essence of these when I photographed them for my Etsy Pottery Shop.

Looking inside these is like looking into a hand dug well showing layers of the earth. I used a flash on the inside of this one. I really enjoy making these, but alas other duties call me.

Happy to see some of my pots chosen for treasuries on Etsy. This large casserole was featured in a Quite Naturally grouping.

Not sure how to photograph a large casserole and not make it appear small. It's almost fifteen inches in length, any suggestions? I didn't use a flash on the inside of this one, maybe I should have.

This one might be better photographed against a darker background.

But I'm trying to stay with consistent backgrounds in my Etsy Pottery Shop.

Mrs. Peanut was Feelin' Groovy today. Now I'll be humming that song all day long. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. The casserole's size is really not showing in this picture. Maybe place something in the picture to show the scale like some ingredient that might go into the casserole or a serving utensile...

  2. Love your vases! They are dreamingly beautiful. I agree with Lon Buff. If I were you, I'd place a salt or pepper pot or both or a wine bottle and a glass or something beside the casserole. I would think that the direction of light is important too.

  4. I agree with Lori about adding something to the photo for scale.
i never use a flash when photographing work. Adjust the positioning of your light or lights, instead. Using a pieces of white foam core to bounce light in different directions is also helpful in some instances.

  5. Hi Lori, thanks, oh that is a great idea of adding the ingredient, didn't even think of it thanks so much.

Hi Sapphire, thanks, oh those are great suggestions for what to place next to the casserole.

Hi Turquoisemoon, thanks, it's an easy song to have in the mind that's for sure, was it the Bee Gees?

  7. The layers and changes of glaze colors are fabulous, making the towers become pieces of art. Same comment as others have said regarding scale...I've even seen coffee grounds or noodles spilled across the surface.

  9. Love how you described the vase's interior like looking down a hand-dug well! Perhaps if you put something in back of the casserole, it would highlight the size.

  10. Hi, Linda! You are a very talented person. I really do like these ceramics. My mother, who was an artist and writer, dabbled in ceramics, but never really did anything like you're doing here.

And thank you much for taking the time to stop by our blogs and commenting! Much appreciated!

  11. Hi Kittie, thanks, yes in back glad you mentioned that as I was inclined to put something in front, but in back might be just the ticket.

Hi Lowell, thanks, oh I don't think there is anything quite like I am doing. ha., came upon your blog googling Murphy's oyster bar as a friend of ours recently went there, a photo a day is so great to see, glad I happened upon it.

  12. Do you doodle these in your mind as you are making them? Or do you think them through before hand? I really like the vase handles...

  15. Hi Dee, thanks, these were just made without any doodling, others I do make drawings. I can imagine three dimensional pieces in my mind and sometimes they just become what they want to become. For the handles I just tried placing up the form to see how it looked and these somehow complemented the form.

Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, these songs are so easy to invade our thoughts.

Hi Mary, thanks, oh now I need to remember the 59th bridge song, but maybe not, lol.
