A Bright Yellow Bird

The other day I noticed a very bright yellow bird out our motorhome window. He's the brightest yellow bird I've ever seen, almost fluorescent yellow. Sorry the photo is blurry but through the window and screen on a slant it was the best I could get. Of course he flew away before I could go out of doors. I think he's a goldfinch. This little bird made me realize why so many folks like bird watching. Seeing a bird I've never seen in the wild before was quite thrilling.

This morning I'm sitting here listing to all the singing birds. Even though it poured and poured last night and their feathers must have been soaked through, still the birds somehow wake up the next day singing. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. It does look like a finch. I've noticed that birds are at their loudest after rain. Reestablishing territory?

  2. Hi Suzi, thanks, that may be it, all their scents may have disappeared, that is if birds have a scent.

  4. A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.

  5. He's such a splash of gold...no wonder he got that name, now the purple finch is a misnomer to me. Red is red. Has someone changed the meaning of purple?

  6. It is a goldfinch. They have a squeaky call rather than a whistle. I have feeders all over the yard for birds and it is fun watching them all.

  7. I love listening to the bird songs, esp. after the rain. One of my neighbors grand-kids wandered over the other morning as I was having coffee on the porch. I asked him if he knew what the birds were singing about. He said "I think they all got a bath from the rain, so they are clean and happy".. LOL

  8. American goldfinch. They're just little brown things in winter; I've always wished to see them changing, instead of saying, one day, "Oh, the goldfinches are gold."

  10. the goldfinches here come daily for the thistle seed I have in a feeder - a metal one I got on amazon. the squirrels mess with the other feeders- don't get me started! so regular here, I'm thinking about naming a few. :)

  11. I have a finch feeder but only get them occasionally. I know others in the area that attract many of them with feeder. I guess I have to be happy with my hummingbird pets.

  12. It looks like a goldfinch to me, too. If you see it flying, they sorta dip when they fly which helps to identify them.
