Contrast

The other day we were driving around and I saw this wonderful Japanese cut leaf red maple, Acer palmatum, and this fir tree. They looked so lovely in contrast next to one another. The Japanese maple is about six feet across and four feet tall. There are so many cultivars of Japanese maples nowadays I hesitate to identify this one. One of the things I love about landscaping is achieving contrast in form, color, and shape in the landscape. Going back and seeing the landscape after it has matured is so satisfying. I love seeing plants grow and mature over time. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Your right these Japanese maples in all their varieties are just stunning. I'm not sure about their winter hardiness here in the far north but I've seen a few here and about...:)

  4. Hi Troutbirder, thanks, I think the maples should be pretty hardy, I grew them in Zone 5 but perhaps their trunks might need to be wrapped from the bitter cold.

Hi Lori, thanks, it always amazes me how just the foliage of plants can be interesting in themselves when paired with other plants. Years ago I thought things always had to have flowers to look interesting then I learned differently.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, there are lots of these spots of nature to please around here, especially with all the rainy weather we have been having, the greens and foliage colors have been standing out more than usual.
