Chapel in the Pines

Our Sunday excursion took us South of Abbeville and Greenwood. After driving through many miles of farmland and pastoral scenes over the countryside we turned a corner looking for a  house for sale. We were immediately struck by one of the most beautiful and serene churches I've ever seen. The small wooden church sat on a knoll facing the corner of the property above a large pond which further emphasized the serene setting. I imagined country folk walking, riding horses, or coming in buggies for Sunday worship. The church was demure yet stately in it's stature. I thought it was probably preserved by the locals but not used for present day worship.  As we turned the corner I saw a wooden sign with the name Chapel in the Pines, Troy, SC. I decided to come back for a photo.

An hour or so later as we rounded the corner prepared to drive up to the church, I was sorry we hadn't stopped previously. I thought we'd drive up and pay our humble respects. Perhaps give a small prayer and homage to the beauty and solace the church would provide us, as it most assuredly has provided and continues to provide so many others before us.

To our amazement, as we were about to drive up, we noticed the church was still in use. I can only imagine the reverence the locals have in their Sunday worship. We drove on  by with respect in our hearts for the simple church in such a remote location. Some day soon we'll return to say a prayer, take a few more photos, and pay our respects at the Chapel in the Pines. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  2. What a truly beautiful spot - and how lovely that it is still in use. I imagine that many a hurting heart has found solace there over the years.
