Anna Ruby Falls in Helen Georgia

The mountains in the state of Georgia are blessed with crystal clear streams and lots of waterfalls. We took a drive to Unicoi State Park to see Anna Ruby Falls.

We decided we really needed to get some exercise so we decided to attempt the hike up to the falls. Although the falls are less than a mile hike in one direction many sections are steep. At the end of the day the tops our our feet were hurting quite a bit. We found out there are muscles in the foot one normally doesn't use walking on flat surfaces.

It was worth the hike and I even remembered to get Gary to take a photo of me at the falls to show you.

There were lots of photo opportunities along the way. Hope you enjoy the scenes vicariously.

My camera is acting up after all these years of use and some of the photos either came out too light or too dark. I may be time for a new one.

Some trees were left to die a natural death with mushrooms growing on the branches.

At the falls there two creeks converge to make two falls, this is a shot of the other one.

Smaller waterfalls littered the creek on our trek up the hill.

I am sure I saw some gold in the water.

Large and small boulders lined the edges and the middle of the creek along the way.

Both sides of the creek were thick with rhododendrons; we hope to go back in the Spring to see all the luxurious color.

Who knew that rhododendrons can grow to the size of small trees. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  3. You probably could find rubies in that creek, if you could squat and pan long enough.
    Lovely pictures.

  4. Gorgeous, Linda! I've been tempted to stop many times but never have, a mistake! Oh, but going down is so much easier than going up!

  5. So pretty. And it looks like the places we went gold panning when I was a child so I wouldn't be at all surprised if you did see some.

  8. Hi Gigi, thanks, I had no idea that Georgia had so much to offer till we got here. I should have realized though since everywhere we travel there is something to admire in just about any place.

Hi Meredith, thanks, you wouldn't believe how many waterfalls there are around this state I had no idea and we seem to be making all the rounds with plenty more to go.

Hi Joanne, thanks, the falls were named after an early explorer's only daughter but I think there are ruby mines somewhere here in Georgia. I need to do some research.

Hi Kittie, thanks, Oh I don't know about going down as other muscles were being used on the downhill that I normally don't use. Once we get settled you'll have to come for a visit since we'll be much closer.

Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, I am sure there are gold in many of the streams around there, the sandy bottoms and rocky cliffs must hold gold for sure.

Hi Sapphire, thanks, it looked like gold even if it wasn't it is nice to dream but I do believe many streams here have gold in them.

Hi Lori, thanks, oh we are really appreciating this beautiful state and here I told Gary I wasn't moving to Georgia. Now Gary says everywhere I say we aren't moving is exactly where we are moving. Ha.
