Pots, Plants, and Projects

Here are the first three pots I made and fired for this year, a small pinch bowl and two vases. I used Highwater's Little Loafer's clay for these. I'll also be trying Speckled Brownstone in a few weeks.

I really need to decide on another camera, Gary's camera just isn't doing it for me.

I should have taken these photos outside, next time. I know where my photo cube light tent is but it will have to wait a few weeks to be unpacked.

I officially joined the Helen Arts Center and will volunteer one day a month to work in the gallery. I'll also have my pottery for sale there. Meanwhile I'm unpacking a few pots for their jury process next week.

It got up to 63 yesterday and was so nice and sunny.

I had picked up a few plants at the nursery last week like this coral bark maple and saucer magnolia.

I even found a couple of variegated yucca, can't wait for all these plants to grow into their new homes.

We also tried planting a few junipers, dogwoods, redbud, and holly and found out our back yard is almost all rock combined with dense Georgia red clay. The planting plan was thrown out and we had to improvise. Gary dug all the holes and I put in the plants. At least we know our home is built on a solid base and isn't likely to slide down the hill.

We now have our mantle installed; it's a bit light in color but will mellow with age. Up next some plans for my new studio and a refinishing project, so stay tuned. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  4. You're a busy gal. I knew you'd be working outside whenever the weather permitted. Glad you've found a clay community in Helen. Me too, photos aren't always what I think they should be. Great mantle!

  7. Love the pinch bowl in particular. And yay for gardening. And I want a coral bark maple (would love the magnolia too but the cockatoos destroy them).

  8. Hi Midori, thanks, slowly but surely getting back into it.

Hi Barbara, thanks, can't seem to get these in focus with this camera, will look into getting a new one.

Hi Amy, thanks, good to be back.

Hi Joanne, thanks, I overlapped a glaze that makes the turquoise run, thought it might be too much added but turned out it was ok.

Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, the glaze on the pinch bowl turned out just like I wanted, I love all maples, strange the cockatoos like the magnolias.
