Stacked Forms & Mystery Cat Injury

There are actually quite a few colors on this stacked form which is drying. I've used aqua, coral, and two browns but my photos doesn't show them well. I add many layers of color and blend the colors with various brushes and sometimes use rubber tools or my fingers. Once the form is fired the colors should darken, we shall see. I found I'm out of practice making these forms where I overlap strips of clay.

Here's the first one I made with two different colors of brown slip. I've left the seams visible on this one. Next time I think I'll make the handle with overlapped strips of clay. Both forms are about ten to twelve inches tall.

The other day our cat Butter showed up at the back door with blood dripping from his mouth. He had a large scratch across his nose and could barely walk. We noticed he had several toe nails missing on a front and back foot. At first we thought Barney might have fought with him, but now we're not so sure, since he doesn't seem to be afraid of Barney. We think he might have been attacked by another animal and fought them off or he may have fallen from the deck or a tree. I've been carrying him to his food and kitty litter and today he seems to be better but is still limping. If only cats could talk. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Hello Linda,

What an adorable picture of your cat. No pun intended but it really does look as if butter would not melt.....

It is wonderful that after all the years of your working with clay there are still processes and new things to discover. One's creative and artistic skills can find no limit....

  2. Poor Butter. After some of Jazz's adventures (mishaps) I have longed for cat-cam.
Love that first form - and the almost irridescent colours in it.

  3. I hope all goes well with Mr. Butter. Sounds more like an encounter with an object than an animal. You might look deep into his eyes and murmur "I warned you about curiosity, young man."

  4. Hope Butter is Ok today....who knows with cats...they can get themselves into all kind of messes. I am curios if when you put on the color do you know exactly how it will look or does it change when fired...like the paints in ceramic.

  5. Oh boy, can't wait to see the after, in before & after glaze firing. Sending Butter healing energies, and wishes that he not do whatever it was again. It's always hard on us humans to help the little guys and not know what happened.

Sorry to hear about Butter's incident. I hope he is on the mend quickly.

  7. I hope Butter heals quickly. It's times like these we wish our pets could talk but we also have plenty of times when we are really glad they can't.

  8. Hi Jane and Lance, thanks, that's the big draw to working in clay, one can never know everything about it so it keeps my mind stimulated.

Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, Butter is such a tough guy, this really knocked the wind out of him.

Hi Joanne, thanks, we are now thinking the same thing; he must have fallen from a height or some such.

Hi Dee, thanks, cats are sometimes their own worst enemy for sure.

Hi Barbara, thanks, I never tire of opening the kiln that's for sure.

Hi Michele, thanks, Butter is slowly getting well, still walking slowly though.

Hi Lori, thanks, you are probably right about not being able to talk some of the tales we might not want to hear.
