Hanging In There

Yesterday (please do see previous post, looks like the feed didn't pick up my post) I posted about How To Hang It wanting to develop a hanging mechanism for  my tiles that didn't involve using a piece of wood glued on the reverse. I made a tile but didn't like the mechanism so I revised it again. The tile above is in the trees. I was going to apply a dogwood blossom to this one but didn't want to cover up the trees.

I've come up with what I'm calling a reverse frame hanging mechanism.

When I first made it I put the holes in the wrong direction so I covered them up and put them in horizontally.

I made another dogwood to attach to the tile but I liked the carved tree tile so much I decided to leave the dogwood off. I've placed it in a bag and hopefully I can re-use it on another tile. I might make some more of these carved tree tiles. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Nice tile!

Perhaps you could figure out a handing mechanism for the dogwood and fire them separately. I would love to see a wall full of them!

    The hanger is pure genius!

  2. Hi Suzi, thanks, oh a wall full of dogwoods, don't tempt me. Ha. I still have time to add something to the back of the dogwood though, it could also be nice hanging around a pot or another vase or oh the ideas you have given me.

  3. Yep, I also never saw your dogwood post yesterday. Strange. But the flowers are beautiful. And again in agreement about hanging clay shapes. Having no wire seems like a good idea to me, and just a hole in the back at the top, on a tab or something secure. But it would have to be balanced well also.

  4. Hi Barbara, thanks, I've never felt just the one hole inscribed in the back of the tile is secure enough as I think of earth quakes, cats jumping, doors slamming, etc.

  5. I think 4 "buttons of clay woulds work as well as making a whole frame on the back. Just pierce the upper two and let the bottom two keep it flat to the wall.

  9. Hi Trish, thanks, I hope I can help others as that's how I learned most of what I know about clay, by reading blogs. Ha.
