Flame Azalea

Driving around the countryside this week I noticed the flame azaleas, Rhododendron calendulaceum, are blooming. Most I saw were alongside busy highways so I couldn't stop to take a photo so sources are noted.

When you see the plant in bloom you can't help but notice it. Even Gary admired the flowers saying they look liked shooting stars. I think a trip to the Georgia Native Botanical Garden may be in order some time soon. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  2. Hi Gigi, thanks, it's almost strange to see this color in the forest since it's so vibrant and unusual, but then again it's wonderful.

  4. The azaleas are in bloom here, too. A bush I've never had luck with. They are beautiful!

  5. Magical. And like Joanne I am an azalea killer - so have stopped planting them. I love them though.

  6. Hi Dee, thanks, I had heard about the flame azalea but it's a real treat to see it in person.

Hi Joanne, thanks, I think they need part shade and an acidic soil.

Hi Elephant's child, thanks, perhaps your climate is too dry for them?
