Virtual Studio Tour

Perhaps you recall my post Behind the Aqua Blue Door. You've just walked through the door for a virtual studio tour. Since my studio is in a walkout basement of my home there's a post in the middle of the room supporting the upper floor so I have to work around that. It's impossible for me to get a photo of the whole studio in one shot. Outside the studio is a covered patio so on nice days it's easy to move outside and work there in the shade. That's where my pottery wheel is and where I'm thinking of putting the kiln.

As you walk down the hallway and turn to the right there's a small book shelf with finished pottery and a work table and chair. The walls are rather bare; I need some art on the walls.

For now I have the ware boards in boxes on the floor but I'd like to put them in some type of rolling cart. There's a couple of closets in this room but one holds the hot water heater, the other holds the central heat and air unit. One other closet is the smallest closet I've ever seen; it's under the stairway to upstairs.

On the back wall is a bank of cabinets with storage for clay supplies and drying greenware and a work station in the middle. When I need to take photos of pottery I can set my photo cube at the work station; I think it will just fit.

The slab roller is in the middle of the room but I'm thinking of moving it to the wall where the work table is and moving the work table to the middle of the room. The work table would then be able to hold up to four students at a time. The slab roller is extremely heavy and doesn't have wheels so Gary is working on figuring out a way to put wheels on the legs so it can be rolled easily.

We set up this rolling cart with glazes, underglazes, oxides, various other chemicals, and miscellaneous pottery supplies. When we tried to roll the cart one of the wheels got stuck between two tiles and the wheel was tweaked so now we have to figure out what to do about that.

As you enter the studio off the hallway there's a small bathroom where I can get water to use for my clay work. It's convenient to have a bathroom on the same floor as the studio. Still need to put up a toilet paper holder. Ha.

After unpacking all of my pottery I had a ton of bubble wrap. I folded all the bubble wrap and put it in boxes. But seriously what does one do with six boxes of bubble wrap? Some of it I'll use to wrap pottery to take to shows and some for pottery sent through the mail. These boxes are just outside the bathroom on the right side of the hallway. Once I figure out where to put them I have a stereo cabinet to put on that wall.

I have two of these folding shelves on the left side of the hallway for finished pottery. I still have a few more boxes to unpack and some of the cabinets need better organization but I'm getting there. I've been wondering how I managed to amass so many supplies. I've been working on some large platters so stay tuned. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  9. It is a lovely studio...I can see you spending many happy hours there... Do you listen to music when you create or do you just get lost in your creating in peace and quiet? Another question...have you thought about teaching classes now that you have a studio?
