Kitchen Reveal

Here's the new kitchen finished except a small bit of floor work to be stained. We enlarged the kitchen about two feet in one direction and a few inches in the other which gave us much needed cabinet space. Cabinets now go to the ceiling giving more storage on upper shelves for those not so often used items. We added five recessed can lights which gives much more light in the kitchen. We opted to keep a ceiling fan but replaced the old one.

Notice each side below the sink there are now two bifold doors with give access to the corners, no blind cabinets any longer. I love the subway tiles we selected, called Leonia Silver Glazed. We chose Oyster Shell Gray grout which almost matches the tile perfectly. The counter is granite called Amazonas. Click link to see close ups.

A new black composite granite single bowl under mount sink and faucet. The sink is deep and there are some dirty dishes in there right now but you can't see them. I like that they are hidden from the next room's view. Ha.

We kept the black appliances since they were new. The refrigerator is on the opposite wall tucked into a pocket. Forgot to take a photo of that. You can save money on a remodel by purchasing knobs and drawer pulls in a package which we did.

Here's a photo of the kitchen before. Notice the drooping fan blades. What you can't see is in order for the drawer on the right and left side of the sink to open someone had cut the edge off because they each hit the stove and dishwasher handles. Both lower corner cabinets were blind meaning there was no accessibility. The upper right hand cabinet was also blind cabinet. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. What a nice job you and Gary did. It's lovely. If I had the $$ and the energy right now, I'd copy what you did for my Idaho kitchen, since mine still looks more like your "old" one. My kitchen window looks out over the added on sun room, and thru to the back yard.

  2. Hi Dennis, thanks, we are both loving it, the old kitchen was worn out. We saved one cabinet and used it in the basement bathroom above the toilet as the finishes were the same as the vanity.

Hi Barbara, thanks, we shopped for all the bargains and hired handymen instead of contractors looking for those competent and dependable.

  7. Looking good. Our corner cabinets slide out to eliminate that blindness. Which is excellent.

  9. Hi Meredith, thanks, we're happy we have a place to put our pots and pans now.

Hi Gigi, thanks, well a person's gotta eat. Ha.

Hi Barb, thanks, I am glad I remembered to keep that photo to show the difference.

Hi Michele, thanks, definitely more functional and it was well worth it.

Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, oh slide outs are convenient, two cabinets in the lowers have slide outs, and I may eventually get lazy susans for one upper and two lowers.

Hi Trish, thanks, we're glad to be finally finished, been a long haul.
