Red Rooster Bank

Unloaded the kiln yesterday and I got a mixed bag for various reasons. This red rooster bank turned out just fine though. He measures 11 1/2 tall by 11 wide by 4 inches wide the body tapers to less wide at the top. I finally unpacked my photo cube but my graduated backdrop was so brittle it cracked so I couldn't use the cube because I didn't even have any poster paper I could use as a substitute. It isn't easy taking photos of shiny pottery. I used red iron oxide on his feet but now I wish I'd used glaze. I need to measure the hole for the stopper and get the correct size. More of the mixed bag coming up as soon as I take the photos.

When I remember I plan to add my name to my pottery photos since I've noticed several instances where I am unable to locate the artist of a particular work. For example on Pinterest some photos when clicked on it says media cache. Another example is etsy and when you click on a photo you are directed to the etsy site for other similar items. 'If the artists name is on the actual photograph then there won't be any question. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  4. I completely agree on marking photos. I do so to discourage borrowing without credit, or at least making it more difficult.

  6. Hi Suzi, thanks, oh what a good idea a family of roosters and chickens, now that I'm over the stress of making one, perhaps I can make others. Ha.

Hi Joanne, thanks, so many times I click on a photo and want to know who made it and I'm not able to find out who.

  11. I love the rooster. I agree you should watermark or name on your photos. When I am on Pinterest, I don't pin anything where I can't easily find the artist, and have seen a lot of work attributed to the wrong person.

  12. Hi Linda...this guy is great...where is his "plugable hole?" Underneath?
I sometimes don't take the extra steps to put my name on photos...but I am usually glad when I do. I post so many that are completely available even though I ask for respect of copyrights...only one person has ever asked permission to use my photos.

  13. Hi Catherine, thanks, I do love this particular red, a sort of brick red color.

Hi Barbara, thanks, just in case someone wants to get my pottery. Ha.

Hi Barb, thanks, the hole is underneath and it's about two inches or a little less large enough to get a fifty cent piece out I think. I got a couple of bathtub stoppers to see if they'll work or hold, if not I'll go over to home depot real quick and see what they have. I post so many too but for one of kind items I'd like folks to know the work is mine.

  14. It may serve a purpose in some instances, but in general I find the name on a photo is distracting to the work.

As for stoppers- find a size that you like and that are readily available for purchase. Figure out the shrinkage and make every opening the same. Saves time and frustration in the end.

  15. Hi Michele, thanks, you have encouraged me to make more of these but when I made the first one I thought never again, but now maybe I will. I think my lettering here is very distracting but I think I can patch up something less obtrusive. I will attempt to make duplicates with similar openings, we shall see if I am successful.

  16. I am in favour of marking photos. And some day I will learn how.
Love the rooster - and am sorry it was a mixed bag. I hope the triumphs were bigger than the tragedies.

  18. Hi Sue, thanks, it always seems to be a mixed bag and it's all in how I look at the results.
