Christmas Eve Firing

Yesterday lightening was predicted so I couldn't fire. Today the storm passed by quickly so I decided to load up. As I was glazing the horse sculpture I noticed I had indeed left several holes for air to escape. So I filled them temporarily with broken off toothpicks and glazed away. The glaze color was almost the same color as the horse so I had to look close not to miss a spot. One of these days Ill get some food coloring and use it in the glaze to make it easier on my eyes. Have you tried that?

All loaded and firing now. Not really a completely full load but I just couldn't finish glazing all those tedious buttons. Next time. Happy holidays to you and yours. The little horse is hoping to greet you on Christmas day. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Sticking a paintbrush handle, or chop stick, or some such wood implement into holes then dipping into a glaze is one way to keep the glaze out of the holes of buttons and ornaments...so some wise potter taught me. Otherwise I've tried waxing the holes and then still had to stick pipe cleaners through to clean out the glaze. Good luck on this kiln load, and Happy Christmas Eve!

  2. Hi Barbara, thanks, the holes are only large enough for the toothpicks to fit, and I didn't dip but brushed as I think it would absorb too much glaze being dipped especially since I was firing today. I hope this little guy makes it. happy christmas eve to you

  4. Hi Turquoisemoon, thanks, I hope he turns out, I used sort of a strange construction technique, if he's ok, I'll make more animal sculptures. Hope you have a relaxing holiday
