Clouds Clinging to the Hilltops

At sunrise the other morning I woke to see clouds clinging to the hilltops. Another half an hour and they had drifted off into the distance.

You know how I am about the red clay slip. I made this bottle form, about ten inches tall, yesterday and added the dripping blue strands, perhaps water leaking from inside. This leans towards the front  not sure I can correct that, Maybe after it's dry I'll sand the front underside. What do you think? Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  2. Your title, "clouds clinging to the hilltops" sounds poetic, and I love the photo that accompanies it! There is so much enjoyment to be had just watching the dance of clouds over hills, and the light and shadow that plays over them.

Your bottle is amazing (I have always loved your tower series). Not sure how much of a lean there is from the photograph. Does the lean disturb you, or is the lean "interesting"? I wonder if bottles have to be straight? Could you make it a companion who leans in sympathy? Two or three leaning bottles could look "intended" and really wonderful together. Just a thought!

    1. Hi Peter, thanks, I almost thought I'd write a poem about those clouds, they were so beautiful that morning, almost alive in a way.

I didn't notice the pot being so leany till I went to photograph it in my light box and the sloping paper made it lean even more so I took it out before it tipped over. I shall see how stable it is again just before the bisque. I don't care if it's straight I just don't want it to be unstable when sitting on a flat surface.

  3. Hope you've gotten the sunny weather which was actually in the 50s here yesterday. I love how much color your mason stains give to pots before bisques!

  4. Hi Barb, thanks, yesterday was nice and sunny but windy, today supposed to rain but maybe not, the orange red color is from a red clay I got in California, almost out, I like how it fires to a toasty reddish brown.
