Beans, Opossum, and More Snow

Yesterday I made my big pot of beans, speckled butter and black bean combo. The tomato broth turned a rich mahogany color when they were finished cooking. I neglected to take a photo though.

Overnight we got another seven and one half inches of snow. Just about everything shuts down in town when it snows here. This time the snow hasn't melted off of our driveway so we're not going anywhere. Our driveway is too steep and long to shovel. Besides we sold our snow shovel in Florida of all places. A gentleman from up north bought it. He's probably using it this year. Luckily we have stocked up on plenty of food and fuel.

Lots of critters are hungry out there. The opossum came back last night looking for cat food in the outdoor bowl. He even looked inside the french door window.

I put a little food out for him but he hasn't come back. I think he has a regular route he takes looking for food. He'll probably be back tonight. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

    1. Hi Barb, thanks, I usually make the 16 beans but found these other beans in the cabinet; they were good.

  2. Those possums always loved my outdoor cat food.
I'm happy that seven inches stayed by you.

    1. Hi Joanne, thanks, well you'd think it would melt but not without any sun, it got down to 19 last night, maybe tomorrow

  3. Thank you for keeping the snow up there, if we got 7 inches in the city we’d be closed down until May!

    1. Hi Lori, thanks, as soon as the sun comes out it will melt but I don't see it today, just cloudy and foggy.

    2. Sounds like a good week-end to stay home. Glad you have supplies and fuel. Our weather forecast is for ice, so I think we'll try and stay home. I've got plenty of soup fixings.

    3. Hi Barbara, thanks, we're supposed to get ice on Sunday then rain next week, go figure, our snow right now is very icy because it was 19 last night, not worth the risk to drive in it.

    1. Hi Gigi, thanks, they can be quite nasty if cornered. We had one sneak into our second house where we kept a box for the cats to sleep and we could hardly get it out of there. Once my dog ran after one and it laid down and played possum like they say and it truly looked dead. But later I went back and it was gone.

  5. When I read the title of your post my first thought was the old tv show "Beverly Hillbillies". Granny used to make possum stew and I thought maybe you added a little opossum to your beans ;-)
I hope your snow melts soon. Ours is going pretty quickly.

    1. Hi Michele, thanks, I thought about that when I posted and I read that folks eat possum but I never could kill something that cute, unless of course I was starving. The sun finally came out and it's starting to melt now.
