A Little Bit of Themselves

When you reach a certain age, you miss relatives and friends long since gone, at least I do. I realized these pieces in clay have their flaws, they lean a little, maybe they lean a lot, but I love them just the same for who they seem to be, for who they remind me of.

Perhaps they've gained a little weight, maybe they have a few bulges a few scars, but I don't fault them for that. They are who they are and I love them for that. Adjectives come to mind - kind, supportive, humorous, inspirational, educational, encouraging, strict, demanding, etc. Not all good but not all bad either. Friends and relatives have shaped my life.

It may seem crazy to imbue feelings into inanimate objects but throughout history people have made objects which symbolize what's important to them, what they admire, perhaps their gods. Each piece is a little bit of themselves. And so, each piece I make is a little bit of myself. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  4. Of course. The very best work always has a piece of its creator (often of his/her heart) built into it.
